1. O fenômeno jurídico como possibilidade do próprio no público / The legal phenomenon as a possibility of the proper in the public
The present work addresses its efforts on the inquisition of the possibility of authenticity in the legal phenomenon as perceived in the public. The method, conceived as a path, follows Martin Heideggers fundamental analytics, and Hans-Georg Gadamer´s comprehensive hermeneutics perceived phenomenologically. The legal phenomenon constitutes the Being that ex

2. Febre amarela nas Américas: uma comparação das concepções médicas e procedimentos experimentais de Carlos Juan Finlay e Emilio Marcondes Ribas
This research presents an analysis of important studies on the yellow fever carried through in the American continent, since the first registered manifestation of the illness, in ends of century XVII, until the to prove of the paper vector of the mosquitoes in its propagation, in ends of century XIX. In the three here described main studies, it was looked to

3. Liberty and indifference: the Jesuitical experience-model in letters of young Spanish indipetentes of 16th and 17th Centuries / Liberdade e indiferença: a "experiência-modelo" jesuítica em cartas de jovens indipetentes espanhóis dos séculos XVI e XVII
This research has for object the Spanish Litterae Indipetae. Indipetae are letters in which young Jesuits of 16th and 17th Centuries have requested the General Priest of the Society of Jesus the sending in mission to the called India (namely, mission territories that they were assigned). These letters were written from legal and rhetorical norms established

5. Selection of cryptic 5' splice sites by group II intron RNAs in vitro.
Recognition of 5' splice points by group I and group II self-splicing introns involves the interaction of exon sequences--directly preceding the 5' splice site--with intronic sequence elements. We show here that the exon binding sequences (EBS) of group II intron aI5c can accept various substitutes of the authentic intron binding sites (IBS) provided in cis

6. Activation of a cryptic TACTAAC box in the Saccharomyces cerevisiae actin intron.
We constructed a translational fusion between the Saccharomyces cerevisiae actin gene and the Escherichia coli beta-galactosidase structural gene such that expression of beta-galactosidase activity required accurate splicing of the actin intron. Using this chimeric gene, we generated a series of internal deletions which removed the TACTAAC box or, in additio

7. Absorption of pathogenic autoantibodies by the extracellular domain of pemphigus vulgaris antigen (Dsg3) produced by baculovirus.
Pemphigus vulgaris (PV) is an autoimmune blistering disease, in which autoantibodies against PV antigen (PVA or Dsg3) play a pathogenic role in inducing blister formation. Bacterial fusion proteins of PVA failed to absorb pathogenic autoantibodies from PV patients' sera probably because they did not represent the proper conformation. Therefore, a chimeric pr

8. Gene expression: chemical synthesis of E. coli ribosome binding sites and their use in directing the expression of mammalian proteins in bacteria.
Mammalian genes, when inserted into bacterial plasmid or phage DNAs, will not be expressed into the corresponding specific proteins in E. coli unless proper initiations signals required for recognition by E. coli ribosomes are provided. We have studied these signals and chemically synthesized two DNA duplexes each containing different initiation signals. The

9. The Yeast RSC Chromatin-Remodeling Complex Is Required for Kinetochore Function in Chromosome Segregation
The accurate segregation of chromosomes requires the kinetochore, a complex protein machine that assembles onto centromeric DNA to mediate attachment of replicated sister chromatids to the mitotic spindle apparatus. This study reveals an important role for the yeast RSC ATP-dependent chromatin-remodeling complex at the kinetochore in chromosome transmission.

10. A novel transcriptional element in circular DNA monomers of the duck hepatitis B virus.
We report the presence of two elements, pet and net, that are required for proper transcription of the duck hepatitis B virus (DHBV). These regions were previously identified by using plasmid clones of the virus in transient expression assays (M. Huang and J. Summers, J. Virol. 68:1564-1572, 1994). In this study, we further analyzed these regions by using in

11. Identification of Retroviral Late Domains as Determinants of Particle Size
Retroviral Gag proteins, in the absence of any other viral products, induce budding and release of spherical, virus-like particles from the plasma membrane. Gag-produced particles, like those of authentic retrovirions, are not uniform in diameter but nevertheless fall within a fairly narrow distribution of sizes. For the human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (

12. Folding of Active β-Lactamase in the Yeast Cytoplasm before Translocation into the Endoplasmic Reticulum
Polypeptides targeted to the yeast endoplasmic reticulum (ER) posttranslationally are thought to be kept in the cytoplasm in an unfolded state by Hsp70 chaperones before translocation. We show here that Escherichia coli β-lactamase associated with Hsp70, but adopted a native-like conformation before translocation in living Saccharomyces cerevisiae cells. β
