1. Isotopic variation among Amazonian floodplain woody plants and implications for food-web research
Isotopic variation within food sources adds uncertainty to models intended to reconstruct trophic pathways. Understanding this variation is pivotal for planning sampling protocols for food-web research. This study investigates natural variation in C and N stable isotopes among plant species in two western Amazon flooded forests with contrasting watershed bio

3. INFLUÊNCIA DO PULSO DE INUNDAÇÃO NA COMPOSIÇÃO ISOTÓPICA (d13C E d15N) DAS FONTES PRIMÁRIAS DE ENERGIA NA PLANÍCIE DE INUNDAÇÃO DO RIO PARAGUAI (PANTANAL MS) / SEASONAL PATTERN DETERMINING PRIMARY ENERGY SOURCES d13C AND d15N IN THE PARAGUAY RIVER FLOODPLAIN TROPHIC WEB, PANTANAL WETLAND - BRAZIL
The food web of the Pantanal wetland in Brazil was investigated during a complete hydrologic cycle (1998-99) using a multiple stable isotope approach (d13C and d15N) with the goal of identifying the primary carbon sources, which drive the system energy flux. The sampling was done in a representative marginal lake (Baía do Castelo) of Paraguay River floodpla

4. Comparison of aquatic food chains using nitrogen isotopes.
Recent studies have shown the utility of delta(15)N to model trophic structure and contaminant bioaccumulation in aquatic food webs. However, cross-system comparisons in delta(15)N can be complicated by differences in delta(15)N at the base of the food chain. Such baseline variation in delta(15)N is difficult to resolve using plankton because of the large te
