1. Editorial Comment: The impact of perioperative complications on favorable outcomes after artificial urinary sphincter implantation for post-prostatectomy incontinence
ABSTRACT Introduction Open surgery for tumor thrombi in atria is very challenging and are associated with significant morbidity and mortality rates. Here, we explore safety of foleys catheter assisted-technique, obviating the need for open surgery. Material and Methods We performed Radical nephrectomy via the midlineincision for renal cell carcinoma with

2. Anesthesia for renal transplantation in patients with dilated cardiomyopathy: a retrospective study of 31 cases

3. Deaths related to differentiated thyroid cancer: a rare but real event
ABSTRACT Objective The present study describes the clinical and tumor characteristics of patients that died from differentiated thyroid cancer and reports on the cause and circumstances of death in these cases. Subjects and methods Retrospective analysis of all the differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC) related deaths at a single institution over a 5-year p

4. Exercícios respiratórios em cirurgia abdominal alta: revisão sistemática e metanálise
BACKGROUND: There is currently no consensus on the indication and benefits of breathing exercises for the prevention of postoperative pulmonary complications PPCs and for the recovery of pulmonary mechanics. OBJECTIVE: To undertake a systematic review of randomized and quasi-randomized studies that assessed the effects of breathing exercises on the recovery

5. Influência da força muscular respiratória pré-operatória na evolução clínica após cirurgia de revascularização do miocárdio / The influence of respiratory muscle strength in clinical evolution after coronary artery bypass graft
Surgical procedures may affect respiratory muscles through various mechanisms. Previous patients health conditions may also contribute to increase this dysfunction. The objective of this study was to verify if respiratory muscle strength in the preoperative phase could influence the outcomes after coronary artery bypass graft surgery (CABG). It was an descri

6. Estimulação diafragmática elétrica transcutânea (EDET) em mulheres obesas mórbidas submetidas à derivação gástrica em Y de Roux (DGYR) com anel de contenção, por laparotomia
The bariatric surgery has been considered an effective procedure for weight and co-morbidities reductions and consequently for the life quality improvement. However, in the same way as all surgeries, it can bring complications and alterations in the pulmonary function meanly in obeses. In this way, the objective of this study was the evaluation of the pulmon

7. Viabilidade da pnemonectomia direita em cães (Canis falimilaris): uma avaliação paramétrica, hemogasométrica, ecocardiográfica, radiográfica, broncoscópica e da mecânica respiratória / Viability of right pneumonectomy in the dogs (Canis familiaris): a parametric, hemogasometric, echocardiographic, radiographic, broncoscopic and respiratory mechanical evaluation
In dogs, the evidence of the viability of right pneumonectomy, as well as the study of the complications resulting from surgical procedure, are very important against the small quantity of specific studies on pneumonectomy in this species. The objective of this project was carrying out an experimental study to evaluate the viability of right pneumonectomy in

8. INFLUENCE OF THE RESPIRATORY FREQUENCY ON THE ARTERIAL GASES SANGUINEOUS IN POSTOPERATIVE THE IMMEDIATE ONE OF EXPLORING LAPAROTOMIA FOR ABDOMINAL TRAUMA / A INFLUÊNCIA DA FREQUÊNCIA RESPIRATÓRIA SOBRE OS GASES SANGUÍNEOS ARTERIAIS NO PÓS - OPERATÓRIO IMEDIATO DE LAPAROTOMIA EXPLORADORA POR TRAUMA ABDOMINAL
The incidence of post-operative pulmonary complications is large, in consequence of the manipulation of abdominal cavity with changes on pulmonary volumes and capacities, resulting in atelectasis and hypoxemy. Alteration of breath pattern in association with postoperative pain can interfere in gaseous exchanges with larger repercussions in the presence of ri

9. A INFLUÊNCIA DA FREQUÊNCIA RESPIRATÓRIA SOBRE OS GASES SANGUÍNEOS ARTERIAIS NO PÓS - OPERATÓRIO IMEDIATO DE LAPAROTOMIA EXPLORADORA POR TRAUMA ABDOMINAL / INFLUENCE OF THE RESPIRATORY FREQUENCY ON THE ARTERIAL GASES SANGUINEOUS IN POSTOPERATIVE THE IMMEDIATE ONE OF EXPLORING LAPAROTOMIA FOR ABDOMINAL TRAUMA

10. Surgical aspects of pulmonary histoplasmosis: A series of 110 cases
Histoplasmosis is of special interest to thoracic surgeons because it may appear in such a wide variety of clinical forms. Fourteen years' experience with 110 proved cases of surgically treated pulmonary histoplasmosis has been reviewed. Twenty-one of these patients manifested as `coinlesion' and underwent only wedge resection without amphotericin B therapy.

11. Acute massive pulmonary embolism following pulmonary resection
Eighteen cases of acute massive and fatal pulmonary embolism following pulmonary resection are summarized. Clinical presentation is distinct in this group of patients. In one-third of the cases there was radiological evidence of major embolism several hours before the acute dramatic episode. At necropsy there seemed to be no correlation between the vascular

12. Surgery of ventricular septal defect and pulmonary vascular resistance
In a series of 65 patients operated upon for ventricular septal defects (VSD), no mortality was attributed to pre-operative raised pulmonary vascular resistance. Eight patients with a severe degree of pulmonary vascular resistance made a full recovery after surgical closure of the ventricular septal defect. Three patients were cyanotic at the time of operati
