To determine whether the "congestive" gastropathy associated with portal hypertension showed distinctive histological features independent of inflammatory gastritis, endoscopic biopsy specimens of gastric mucosa from 23 patients with portal hypertension and 25 patients with non-ulcer dyspepsia were examined.
