1. Morphological and genetic perspectives of hybridization in two contact zones of closely related species of Petunia (Solanaceae) in southern Brazil
ABSTRACT Interspecific hybridization has several consequences for parental species, from blurring species limits to the emergence of new taxa. Petunia axillaris and P. exserta occur in sympatry in southernmost Brazil and naturally hybridize despite their different pollination syndromes and habitat requirements. We employed genetic and morphological analyses

2. Variation in plant-animal interactions along an elevational gradient of moist forest in a semiarid area of Brazil
Pollination and dispersal are critical ecological processes that directly affect the reproductive success of plants and are important for understanding the structure of plant communities. We compiled data on pollination and dispersal syndromes of 406 plant species distributed among different elevations in Área de Proteção Ambiental da Serra de Baturité (

3. Exploring the role of auxin in the androgynophore movement in Passiflora
The flowers of the species belonging to the genus Passiflorashow a range of features that are thought to have arisen as adaptations to different pollinators. Some Passiflora species belonging to the subgenus Decaloba sect. Xerogona, show touch-sensitive motile androgynophores. We tested the role of auxin polar transport in the modulation of the androgynophor

4. Disponibilidade de recursos florais e o seu uso por beija-flores em uma área de cerrado de Uberlândia, MG / Floral resource availability and its use by hummingbirds in an area of cerrado of Uberlândia, MG / Disponibilidade de recursos florais e o seu uso por beija-flores em uma área de cerrado de Uberlândia, MG / Floral resource availability and its use by hummingbirds in an area of cerrado of Uberlândia, MG

Background and aims The high plant species richness and the pollination mechanisms in the tropical forests are endangered by the loss of ecological groups, consequence of the forest fragmentation. The objective of this study was to evaluate the edge effect on the pollination and the reproductive systems of a tree community. Methods 600 tree individuals belon

As interaÃÃes planta-polinizador sÃ

7. Polinização e dispersão de sementes em solanaceas neotropicais
To understand the ecological processes that provides the functioning of an ecosystem implies in conducting multiple studies about its components and interactions. In this sense, it is very important to know the functional relationships of the species and to make comparisons (both intercommunity and pancommunity) among groups of species phylogenetically relat

8. Biologia floral de duas especies sincronopatricas de Prestonia (Apocynaceae)
Observations on floral biology, breeding systems and pollination of Prestonia coalita and P. riedelÚ were carried out from January to April1989 and 1990. The study was undertaken in the Santa Genebra Forest Reserve, Campinas, São Paulo. Prestonia coalita has tubular flowers measuring 11 to 13mm in length. The color is yellow and the odour acrid and sweet.

10. Floral and ecological isolation between Aquilegia formosa and Aquilegia pubescens.
Habitat preference and pollination syndrome have been suggested as major factors in reproductive isolation among plant species. The columbine genus Aquilegia contains species that have been used as classic examples of reproductive isolation due to ecological and floral factors. In this analysis Aquilegia formosa, Aquilegia pubescens, and natural hybrid popul

11. Developmental abnormalities and epimutations associated with DNA hypomethylation mutations.
A number of aberrant morphological phenotypes were noted during propagation of the Arabidopsis thaliana DNA hypomethylation mutant, ddm1, by repeated self-pollination. Onset of a spectrum of morphological abnormalities, including defects in leaf structure, flowering time, and flower structure, was strictly associated with the ddm1 mutations. The morphologica
