1. ICP OES Determination of Contaminant Elements Leached from Food Packaging Films
ABSTRACT Determination of potential contaminants elements in food packing films arising from contact with acidic aqueous foods was undertaken by inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry (ICP OES) in accordance with DIN EN 1186-1. Test sections from plastic films were totally immersed in 3% w/v CH3COOH used as the food simulant. Testing was c

2. Influence of lubricant oil residual fraction on recycled high density polyethylene properties and plastic packaging reverse logistics proposal
Abstract To recycle post-consumer HDPE contaminated with waste lubricating oils, companies include prior washing and drying in the process. This consumes large amounts of water and energy, generates significant effluent requiring treatment. This study assesses lubricating oil influence on HDPE properties to evaluate the feasibility of its direct mechanical r

3. A comunidade planctÃnica como indicadora da qualidade da Ãgua em viveiros de cultivo de camarÃes no nordeste do Brasil
A disease of unknown origin is occurring in marine shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) ponds causing a decrease in the survival rate of cultured organisms. The disease named Idiopathic Abdominal Necrosis (IAN) have been confirmed in ponds from 14 farms located in PiauÃ, MaranhÃo, Cearà and Rio Grande do Norte states, Northeastern Brazil. In order to contribute

4. Closure systems for PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate) bottles and the effect on CO2 retention / Avaliação de sistemas de fechamento para embalagens de polietileno tereftalato (PET) na retenção de CO2
This study had the aim to evaluate CO2 retention in PET bottles filled with carbonated and drinkable water using different closure systems studied in 3 different storage conditions, 5, 25 and 35°C. It was evaluated 4 commercial closure systems: 3 of conventional type and one with O2 and CO2 gas barrier; and also it was developed a 5th kind for this experien

5. Adaptation and evaluation of performance of aseptic system for fluid milk in plastic bottle.

6. Evaluation of a Plastic Nonvented Aerobic Blood Culture Bottle for Use with the BacT/ALERT Microbial Detection System
The current BacT/ALERT SA (BTA SA) aerobic blood culture bottle is made from glass, does not require venting, and contains a liquid emulsion sensor (LES). Its performance has been shown to be equivalent to that of the vented standard aerobic culture bottle. A further-improved version of the BTA SA bottle, designated the BacT/ALERT plastic SA (BTA PSA) cultur

7. Controlled Clinical Comparison of Plastic versus Glass Bottles of BacT/ALERT PF Medium for Culturing Blood from Children
The plastic pediatric BacT/ALERT (bioMérieux, Durham, N.C.) PF (PPF) is a new nonvented aerobic culture medium in a clear plastic bottle designed to prevent breakage. We compared the performance of the new PPF bottle to that of the present glass BacT/ALERT PF bottle for the recovery of microorganisms as well as for the time to detection of growth in samples

8. Occupational asthma due to unheated polyvinylchloride resin dust.
Polyvinylchloride (PVC) resins are widely used in industry. Asthma due to the thermal degradation products of PVC are well documented. In this first case of occupational asthma due to unheated PVC resin dust the patient was exposed to PVC resin dust during the mixing of chemicals used for making plastic seals for bottle caps.

9. Rapid identification of Enterobacteriaceae from blood cultures with the Micro-ID system.
Micro-ID is a new test system designed to identify members of the family Enterobacteriaceae in 4 h. It consists of 15 biochemical tests on reagent-impregnated paper disks; each test is in its own compartment in a molded plastic tray. Based on the pattern of positive and negative biochemical reactions, a five-digit octal code number is calculated. A computer-
