13. Does inter-plant variation in sprouting time affect the growth/reproduction trade-off and herbivory in a tropical tree species?
ABSTRACT The timing of phenological events varies within and among populations, affecting the performance of individual plants differently. We evaluated the effects of relative variation in sprouting time on the display of reproductive events, vegetative growth and herbivory in Copaifera langsdorffii (Fabaceae). A total of 93 trees of C. langsdorffii was mon

14. Reproductive phenology, seed removal and early regeneration in relation to distance from parental plants of a native palm in small Atlantic forest fragments
ABSTRACT The Brazilian Atlantic Forest is a global biodiversity hotspot, but most of what remains are small fragments. Small fragments are often harsh environments for forest plant recruitment due to edge effects and the loss of frugivorous animals that provide seed dispersal. We recorded the one-year reproductive phenology of the keystone palm Syagrus roman

15. Agronomic evaluation of 'Bordô' grapevine (Ives) clones
'Bordô' grapevines (Vitis labrusca) have great relevance to viticulture due to the quality they can impart to wines and juices. However, this cultivar has high variation in yield, ranging from 6 to 11 t ha-1. The use of clones with superior genetic potential related to scions currently marketed may increase crop profitability and revitalize its cultivation.

16. Phenology, caudex growth and age estimation of Cyathea corcovadensis (Raddi) Domin (Cyatheaceae) in a subtropical forest in southern Brazil
Cyathea corcovadensis (Raddi) Domin occurs in northeastern, southeastern and southern Brazil, being widely distributed in the last. This was a three-year study, conducted from August 2008 to July 2011, in which we evaluated C. corcovadensis in a subtropical forest in southern Brazil. For the first year (August 2008 to July 2009), we monitored 30 plants on a

17. Ocorrência, distribuição geográfica e estudo fenológico de camu-camuzeiro (Myrciaria dubia (H.B.K.) Mc Vaugh no estado de Roraima / Occurrence, geographical distribution and phenological study of (Myrciaria dubia (H.B.K.) McVaugh) in the state of Roraima
The camu-camu (Myrciaria dubia) is a representative of the family Myrtaceae, one of the botanical families most important to fruit growing and which is part of several communities of the Brazilian vegetation. M. dubia is an Amazonian plant, found most often in the Peruvian Amazon. The species possesses fruits with a high content of vitamin C, the pulp being

18. Phenology of the oil palm interspecific hybrid Elaeis oleifera × Elaeis guineensis
Oil palm is one of the most important oil crops in the world. Because of its high productivity and perennial nature, it has been expanding quickly. Commercial plantations consist mostly of the African palm E. guineensis Jacq. However, producers in Latin America are increasingly planting the O × G interspecific hybrid, a cross between African palm (E. guinee

19. Desenvolvimento de marcadores microssatélites e caracterização da diversidade genética molecular de acessos de alho (Allium sativum L.) / Development of microsatellite markers and characterization of molecular genetic diversity among garlic (Allium sativum L.) accessions
Garlic is an important crop not only for its culinary attractiveness, but also because of a huge number of medicinal properties. The genetic resources in germplasm require characterization by morphological traits and molecular markers to be effectively used in breeding programs. A novel set of 16 SSR loci specific to garlic were developed. Ten loci were poly

20. Composição e sazonalidade de borboletas frugívoras no cerrado, com ênfase na relação fenológica entre Eunica bechina (Nymphalidae: Biblidinae) e sua planta hospedeira Caryocar brasiliense (Caryocaraceae) / Composition and seasonality of fruit-feeding butterflies in the cerrado savanna, with emphasis on the phenological relationship between Eunica bechina (Nymphalidae: Biblidinae) and its host plant Caryocar brasiliense (Caryocaraceae)
In many tropical environments, rainy and dry seasons alternate. The dryer season has decreased leaf availability and the nutritional quality of leaves is also low - thus it is an unfavorable period for herbivorous insects and generates seasonal oscillations in their populations. The cerrado is a neotropical seasonal biome characterized by a hot/rainy and a c

22. Modeling the phenology of ¿royal gala¿ and ¿fuji suprema¿ apple trees in function of the climate, in the Vacaria region, Brazil / Modelagem aplicada à fenologia de macieiras Royal Gala e Fugi Suprema em função do clima, na região de Vacaria, RS
The production of apple in Southern Brazil is limited by climate conditions. Low and continuous air temperature during winter seasons are indispensable to plants for initiating a new vegetative cycle, and for an adequate budding and flowering. Besides of low temperature in winter, thermal conditions in spring and summer seasons have also influence in plant d

23. Dinâmica de crescimento de Cedrela odorata L. (Meliaceae) on the Atlantic Rain Forest of the State of Rio de Janeiro: phenology, cambial activity and dendrochronology
Along the 20th century, a few dendrochronological studies were developed with tropical species, according to the belief that variations of the climatic conditions on those regions werent regular and strong enough to induce an annual rate of radial growth. The researches on this topic in the last decades showed that the formation of annual growth rings in the

24. Simulation of growth and development of irrigated cowpea in Piauí State by CROPGRO model.
The objective of this work was to adapt the CROPGRO model, which is part of the DSSAT system, for simulating the cowpea (Vigna unguiculata) growth and development under soil and climate conditions of the Baixo Parnaíba region, Piauí State, Brazil. In the CROPGRO, only input parameters that define crop species, cultivars, and ecotype were changed in order t
