2. Ecology of phytoplankton community in two branches of Billings Reservoir (São Paulo, SP) with different trophic states / Ecologia da comunidade fitoplactônica em dois braços da Represa Billings (São Paulo, SP) com diferentes graus de trofia
The aim of this work was to compare the phytoplankton community composition and diversity in Rio Grande and Taquacetuba branches (Billings Reservoir) and to determinate its controlling factors. Water samples were collected in six depths on February, May, August and November 2005. Physical and chemical variables and the phytoplankton community were analyzed.

3. Characterization and utilization of genes involved with aluminum tolerance in maize / Caracterização e utilização de genes envolvidos na tolerancia ao aluminio toxico em milho
Acid soils are found worldwide but most of them are located in tropical and subtropical regions. Aluminum (Al), the most abundant metal on the earth surface, becomes soluble in the soil solution as consequence of low pH in acid soils and achieves phytotoxic levels for most of the cultivated plant species. The first symptom of Al toxicity is the inhibition of

4. Toxicidade do cobre sobre tambaqui Colossoma macropomum (Cuvier, 1818) em pH 4 e pH 8
The aim of this study was to determine the copper toxicity for the fish species Colossoma macropomum (tambaqui) in pH 4 and pH 8, to assess the bioconcentration and the exposition effects on hematological, ionic parameters and swimming performance of the animals. For this, the lethal concentration in 96 hours (LC50) of copper in pH 4 was estimated in 2,68mg/

5. Functional analysis of the fission yeast Prp4 protein kinase involved in pre-mRNA splicing and isolation of a putative mammalian homologue.
The prp4 gene of Schizosaccharomyces pombe encodes a protein kinase. A physiological substrate is not yet known. A mutational analysis of prp4 revealed that the protein consists of a short N-terminal domain, containing several essential motifs, which is followed by the kinase catalytic domain comprising the C-terminus of the protein. Overexpression of N-term

6. AtHKT1 Facilitates Na+ Homeostasis and K+ Nutrition in Planta1
Genetic and physiological data establish that Arabidopsis AtHKT1 facilitates Na+ homeostasis in planta and by this function modulates K+ nutrient status. Mutations that disrupt AtHKT1 function suppress NaCl sensitivity of sos1-1 and sos2-2, as well as of sos3-1 seedlings grown in vitro and plants grown in controlled environmental conditions. hkt1 suppression
