1. Chymotrypsin- and trypsin-like activities secreted by the multidrug-resistant yeasts forming the Candida haemulonii complex
Abstract: Candida haemulonii complex (C. haemulonii, C. haemulonii var. vulnera and C. duobushaemulonii) consists of emergent multidrug-resistant pathogens that cause bloodstream and deep-seated infections. However, little is known about their virulence factors. Herein, we evaluated the presence of extracellular serine peptidases in this fungal complex. Seri

2. Calpains of Leishmania braziliensis: genome analysis, differential expression, and functional analysis
BACKGROUND Calpains are proteins belonging to the multi-gene family of calcium-dependent cysteine peptidases that undergo tight on/off regulation, and uncontrolled proteolysis of calpains is associated with severe human pathologies. Calpain orthologues are expanded and diversified in the trypanosomatids genome. OBJECTIVES Here, we characterised calpains

3. Peptide separation of commercial fermented milk during refrigerated storage
Milk is an important source of bioactive compounds. Many of these compounds are released during fermentation and refrigerated storage. The aim of this study was to determine the release of peptides by lactic acid bacteria in commercial fermented milk during refrigerated storage. The size and profile of peptides were analyzed by polyacrylamide gel electrophor

4. Comparative analysis of the venom proteome of four important Malaysian snake species
Background Naja kaouthia, Ophiophagus hannah, Bungarus fasciatus and Calloselasma rhodostoma are four venomous snakes indigenous to Malaysia. In the present study, their proteomic profile by two-dimensional gel electrophoresis (2-DE) have been separated and compared. Results The 2-DE of venoms of the four species snake demonstrated complexity and obvious

5. Production and partial characterization of serine and metallo peptidases secreted by Aspergillus fumigatus Fresenius in submerged and solid state fermentatio
Enzyme production varies in different fermentation systems. Enzyme expression in different fermentation systems yields important information for improving our understanding of enzymatic production induction. Comparative studies between solid-state fermentation (SSF) using agro-industrial waste wheat bran and submerged fermentation (SmF) using synthetic media

6. Fermentação, purificação, caracterização bioquímica e microencapsulação da protease produzida pelo fungo Eupenicillium javanicum / Fermentation, purification, biochemical characterization, and microencapsulation of protease produced by the fungus Eupenicillium javanicum
No biopro

7. Efeito da 1,10-fenantrolina e seus derivados complexados em metal na atividade proteolítica de Leishmania braziliensis / Effect of 1,10-phenanthroline and its derivatives complexed metal in the proteolytic activity of Leishmania braziliensis

Plant legumains, also termed vacuolar processing enzymes (VPEs), are cysteine peptidases that play key roles in seed maturation, germination, senescence, stress response, programmed cell death during development and defense against pathogens. Despite the increasing number of reports on VPEs, most of studies are on dicotyledonous legumain and their role in se

Diversity of Acanthamoeba spp in Brazil: isolation, physiological features, genotyping and phylogenetic relationships amog environmental and clinical isolates.

11. Evolutionary histories of expanded peptidase families in Schistosoma mansoni
Schistosoma mansoni is one of the three main causative agents of human schistosomiasis, a major health problem with a vast socio-economic impact. Recent advances in the proteomic analysis of schistosomes have revealed that peptidases are the main virulence factors involved in the pathogenesis of this disease. In this context, evolutionary studies can be appl

12. Increased expression of keratinase and other peptidases by Candida parapsilosis mutants
Keratinases are enzymes of great importance involved in pathogenic processes of some fungi. They also have a widespread ecological role since they are responsible for the degradation and recycling of keratin. On the one hand, studying them furthers our knowledge of pathogenicity mechanisms, which has important implications for human health, and on the other
