13. "Projeto do microtron principal do IFUSP" / "The main IFUSP microtron project"
Neste trabalho apresentamos o projeto do microtron principal do IFUSP.

14. \ 58 ANTPOT. Co\ : estudo de um núcleo ímpar-ímpar na camada pf / 58Co: study of an odd-odd nucleus in the pf shell
The excited states in the doubly odd nucleus \ ANTPOT. 58 CO\ have been studied using inbeam gama-ray spectroscopy. The \ ANTPOT. 58 CO\ nucleus has been produced with the fusionevaporation reaction \ ANTPOT. 51 V\ (ANTPOT. 10 B\ , p2n) at 33 MeV bombarding energy, using the SMV Pelletron accelerator of the University of São Paulo. 15. Spectroscopy of 6Li using the ³He(7Li, alpha)6Li reaction
The spectroscopic study of unbound states in the 6Li nucleus was performed by measuring the energy spectrum of the alpha-particles emitted from the transfer reaction ³He(7Li, alpha)6Li. The 7Li beam at E Lab = 31.2MeV was produced at the São Paulo Pelletron accelerator. A ³He gas cell was used as target. alpha-Particle spectra were measured from thetaLab

16. Perspectives of the ALICE experiment
The Large Hadron Collider, now under contruction at the European Center for Nuclear Research, represents a unique opportunity for Heavy-Ion Physics. It will provide nuclear collisions at a center-of-mass energy 30 times higher then the present Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider at BNL, currelty the highest energy nuclear accelerator. The LHC will open for this

17. An alternative method for the measurement of stellar nuclear-reaction rates
For charged-particle induced reactions occurring in astrophysical scenarios, projectile energies are usually well below the Coulomb barrier of the reacting system. Hence, extremely small cross section reactions pose a difficult task for laboratory measurements. Most commonly, these energy-dependent cross sections are studied by detecting the emitted prompt g

18. Particle components of dark matter
Particle candidates for astrophysical dark matter are reviewed, with particular emphasis on the lightest supersymmetric particle and the axion. The former is now constrained by accelerator experiments to have a mass above about 40 GeV, and ongoing searches at accelerators, in space, and in underground experiments have a good chance to detect it. A reeva

19. Mutagenic effects of a single and an exact number of α particles in mammalian cells
One of the main uncertainties in risk estimation for environmental radon exposure using lung cancer data from underground miners is the extrapolation from high- to low-dose exposure where multiple traversal is extremely rare. The biological effects of a single α particle are currently unknown. Using the recently available microbeam source at the Radiologica

20. Radiocarbon dates on bones of extinct birds from Hawaii.
Bones from a stratified sedimentary deposit in the Puu Naio Cave site on Maui, Hawaiian Islands, reveal the late Holocene extinction of 19 species of birds. The age of the sediment and associated fauna was determined by direct radiocarbon dating (tandem particle accelerator-mass spectrometer; TAMS) of amino acids extracted from bones weighing as little as 45

21. Functional unit of the low density lipoprotein receptor of fibroblasts: a 100,000-dalton structure with multiple binding sites.
The low density lipoprotein (apoprotein B,E) receptors of fibroblasts bind plasma lipoproteins that contain either the B (apo-B) or E (apo-E) apoproteins. These include the low density lipoproteins (LDL) containing apo-B and certain high density lipoproteins containing apo-E (e.g., the cholesterol-induced apo-E HDLc). The same receptor binds both LDL and apo

22. Targeted cytoplasmic irradiation with alpha particles induces mutations in mammalian cells
Ever since x-rays were shown to induce mutation in Drosophila more than 70 years ago, prevailing dogma considered the genotoxic effects of ionizing radiation, such as mutations and carcinogenesis, as being due mostly to direct damage to the nucleus. Although there was indication that alpha particle traversal through cellular cytoplasm was innocuous, the full
