1. Diversity and three-dimensional structures of the alpha Mcr of the methanogenic Archaea from the anoxic region of Tucuruí Lake, in Eastern Brazilian Amazonia
Methanogenic archaeans are organisms of considerable ecological and biotechnological interest that produce methane through a restricted metabolic pathway, which culminates in the reaction catalyzed by the Methyl-coenzyme M reductase (Mcr) enzyme, and results in the release of methane. Using a metagenomic approach, the gene of the a subunit of mcr (mcrα) was

2. A new approach to identify the structural order of par (p) models
The periodic autoregressive model, a particular structure of the Box & Jenkins family, denoted by PAR (p), is employed to model the series of hydrological streamflow used for estimating the operational costs of the Brazilian hydro-thermal optimal dispatch. Recently, some aspects of this approachbegan to be studied and several researches on this topic are bei

3. Biodegradação de uma mistura de corantes têxteis usando o fungo Ganoderma sp: um estudo cinético
The kinetics of biodegradation by the fungus Ganoderma sp of textile dyes Yellow, Blue and Red Procion were studied in effluents using UV-Vis spectroscopy, Partial Least Squares Regression (PLS) and univariate analysis. The kinetic of the reactions were founded intermediate between first and second orders and the rate constants were calculated. The biodegrad

4. Meningoencephalitis caused by a zygomycete fungus (Basidiobolus) associated with septic shock in an immunocompetent patient: 1-year follow-up after treatment
Zygomycosis is an infection caused by opportunistic fungi of the Zygomycetes class, specifically those from the Mucorales and Entomophthorales orders. It is an uncommon disease, mainly restricted to immunocompromised patients. We report a case of a 73-year-old male patient with a history of fever (39°C) lasting for 1 day, accompanied by shivering, trembling

5. Nivelamento de capacidade de produção utilizando quadros Heijunka em sistemas híbridos de coordenação de ordens de produção / Production capacity leveling using Heijunka box in hybrid systems for coordinating production orders
Lean production is one of the most famous production management paradigms being implemented in the industries recently. Its philosophy and tools shall apply to the most diverse types of production systems. One of its major components is the search for stability in the processes and operations, requiring the application of production leveling, as a programmin

6. Nanopartículas de Pt suportadas em Al2O3 e CeO2-Al2O3: síntese, caracterização e propriedades catalíticas para reforma do metano.
A new method to prepare Pt nanoparticles (NPs) dispersed on Al2O3 and CeO2-Al2O3 is described in this work. The Pt-NPs were used to prepare CeO2-Al2O3-supported Pt nanocatalysts (Pt-NPs/Al2O3 and Pt-NPs/CeO2-Al2O3). The catalysts were characterized by BET surface area (SBET), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) reaction of

In this text we construct generic models described by partial differential equations for intraspecific populational dynamics problems with density-dependent diffusion, populational decrement coefficient, and/or malthusian intrinsic reproduction rates varying with time, and velocity fields associated to migratory processes or induced convection by chemotaxy,

9. Delayed singularity formation for solutions of nonlinear partial differential equations in higher dimensions
Strict solutions u of genuinely nonlinear homogeneous hyperbolic equations in two independent variables with initial data f(x) of compact support become singular after a time interval of order ∥f∥-1. In higher dimensions solutions initially of compact support are likely to have life expectancies of orders ∥f∥-2+ε at least. This is proved for the spe

10. Amino acid sequence of human prothrombin fragments 1 and 2.
The amino acid sequence of the nonthrombin half of human prothrombin is presented. Prothrombin fragment 1 has 155 amino acid residues as compared with 156 for the bovine equivalent. Ten gamma-carboxyglutamic acid residues are at the same location in each species. Human prothrombin fragment 2 contains 118 amino acid residues, as does the similar bovine fragme

11. A novel method for multiple alignment of sequences with repeated and shuffled elements
We describe ABA (A-Bruijn alignment), a new method for multiple alignment of biological sequences. The major difference between ABA and existing multiple alignment methods is that ABA represents an alignment as a directed graph, possibly containing cycles. This representation provides more flexibility than does a traditional alignment matrix or the recently

12. Inactivation of enteric viruses in wastewater sludge through dewatering by evaporation.
The effect of dewatering on the inactivation rates of enteric viruses in sludge was determined. For this study, water was evaporated from seeded raw sludge at 21 degrees C, and the loss of viral plaque-forming units was measured. Initial results with poliovirus showed that recoverable infectivity gradually decreased with the loss of water until the solids co
