13. Study of p-nitrophenol degradation by zero-valent iron: evaluation of reductive and oxidative processes / Estudo da degradação do p-nitrofenol por ferro de valência zero: avaliação de processos redutivos e oxidativos

In this work the growth of the Chromobacterium violaceum in pilot scale and a new methodology of extraction and purification of violacein, a secondary metabolite produced by this bacteria, had been studied. The violacein is a natural pigment extracted of the Chromobacterium violaceum with important biological activities, however, with low solubility in water

16. Electroanalytical determination of 4-nitrophenol by square wave voltammetry on diamond electrodes

This work contains results about kinetic, physico-chemical and conformationalstudies of castor bean seed acid phosphatase. About kinetic approaches we studied the effect of inhibitors and determined the amino acids present in the active site. Inorganic phosphate, molybidate and o vanadate were competitive inhibitors, with Ki values of 0,14 mM, 10 x 10-6 mM e

18. Degradation and induction specificity in actinomycetes that degrade p-nitrophenol.
We have isolated two soil bacteria (identified as Arthrobacter aurescens TW17 and Nocardia sp. strain TW2) capable of degrading p-nitrophenol (PNP) and numerous other phenolic compounds. A. aurescens TW17 contains a large plasmid which correlated with the PNP degradation phenotype. Degradation of PNP by A. aurescens TW17 was induced by preexposure to PNP, 4-

19. Pathway for Biodegradation of p-Nitrophenol in a Moraxella sp
A Moraxella strain grew on p-nitrophenol with stoichiometric release of nitrite. During induction of the enzymes for growth on p-nitrophenol, traces of hydroquinone accumulated in the medium. In the presence of 2,2′-dipyridyl, p-nitrophenol was converted stoichiometrically to hydroquinone. Particulate enzymes catalyzed the conversion of p-nitrophenol to hy

20. Starvation-survival of a p-nitrophenol-degrading bacterium.
An environmental actinomycetes, capable of utilizing p-nitrophenol as its sole carbon and nitrogen source, was starved for an 8-week period and showed no reduction in its ability to biodegrade p-nitrophenol. Microscopic examination revealed that starvation of the bacterium resulted in the fragmentation of filaments into individual cells.

21. Degradation of Parathion by Bacteria Isolated from Flooded Soil
Two bacteria, Bacillus sp. and Pseudomonas sp., were isolated from parathionamended flooded alluvial soil which exhibited parathion-hydrolyzing ability. Bacillus sp. readily liberated nitrite from the hydrolysis product, p-nitrophenol, but not from intact parathion. Pseudomonas sp. hydrolyzed parathion and then released nitrite from p-nitrophenol. These stud

22. Characterization of a nitrophenol reductase from the phototrophic bacterium Rhodobacter capsulatus E1F1.
The phototrophic bacterium Rhodobacter capsulatus E1F1 photoreduced 2,4-dinitrophenol to 2-amino-4-nitrophenol by a nitrophenol reductase activity which was induced in the presence of nitrophenols and was repressed in ammonium-grown cells. The enzyme was located in the cytosol, required NAD(P)H as an electron donor, and used several nitrophenol derivatives a

23. Microbial Decontamination of Parathion and p-Nitrophenol in Aqueous Media
A mixed microbial culture was adapted to growth on parathion to determine the feasibility of using microorganisms to detoxify concentrated parathion in agricultural wastes. In a 600-ml chemostat, the culture was able to degrade 50 mg of parathion per liter per h. Para-nitrophenol, produced by enzymatic hydrolysis of parathion, caused delays in exponential gr

24. Reduction of nitrosubstituted aromatic compounds by the halophilic anaerobic eubacteria Haloanaerobium praevalens and Sporohalobacter marismortui.
The moderately halophilic, obligately anaerobic eubacteria Haloanaerobium praevalens DSM 2228 and Sporohalobacter marismortui ATCC 35420 are able to reduce a variety of nitrosubstituted aromatic compounds at a high rate to the corresponding amines. Compounds degraded included nitrobenzene, o-nitrophenol, m-nitrophenol, p-nitrophenol, nitroanilines, 2,4-dinit
