13. Differentially regulated NADPH:cytochrome P450 oxidoreductases in parsley
Two NADPH:cytochrome P450 oxidoreductases (CPRs) from parsley (Petroselinum crispum) were cloned, and the complete proteins were expressed and functionally identified in yeast. The two enzymes, designated CPR1 and CPR2, are 80% identical in amino acid sequence with one another and about 75% identical with CPRs from several other plant species. The mRNA accum

14. Sequence analysis of the phs operon in Salmonella typhimurium and the contribution of thiosulfate reduction to anaerobic energy metabolism.
The phs chromosomal locus of Salmonella typhimurium is essential for the dissimilatory anaerobic reduction of thiosulfate to hydrogen sulfide. Sequence analysis of the phs region revealed a functional operon with three open reading frames, designated phsA, phsB, and phsC, which encode peptides of 82.7, 21.3, and 28.5 kDa, respectively. The predicted products

16. Helicobacter pylori porCDAB and oorDABC Genes Encode Distinct Pyruvate:Flavodoxin and 2-Oxoglutarate:Acceptor Oxidoreductases Which Mediate Electron Transport to NADP
Helicobacter pylori, a major cause of human gastric disease, is a microaerophilic bacterium that contains neither pyruvate nor 2-oxoglutarate dehydrogenase activity. Previous studies (N. J. Hughes, P. A. Chalk, C. L. Clayton, and D. J. Kelly, J. Bacteriol. 177:3953–3959, 1995) have indicated that the major routes for the generation of acetyl coenzyme A (ac

17. Two NADPH:Protochlorophyllide Oxidoreductases in Barley: Evidence for the Selective Disappearance of PORA during the Light-Induced Greening of Etiolated Seedlings.
Chlorophyll synthesis in barley is controlled by two different light-dependent NADPH:protochlorophyllide oxidoreductases, termed PORA and PORB. PORA is present abundantly in etioplasts but selectively disappears soon after the beginning of illumination. This negative light effect is mediated simultaneously at three different levels. First, the concentration

18. Nucleotide sequence of the aknA region of the aklavinone biosynthetic gene cluster of Streptomyces galilaeus.
A 3.4-kb BamHI fragment that is assumed to be a part of the aklavinone biosynthetic gene cluster of Streptomyces galilaeus 3AR-33 and contains the genes required for the early stage of polyketide biosynthesis was sequenced. The nucleotide sequence of the region that hybridizes to the actIII probe reveals the presence of a gene, aknA, whose deduced protein pr

19. Overexpression of Escherichia coli oxidoreductases increases recombinant insulin-like growth factor-I accumulation
Transient overexpression of either DsbA or DsbC can double the yield of periplasmic insulin-like growth factor (IGF)-I in Escherichia coli to 8.5 g/liter. Strikingly, most of the overexpressed DsbA or DsbC is found in the reduced form, implying that enhanced disulfide isomerization is responsible for the substantial increase in IGF-I yield. All of the accumu

20. Mutations in the Thiol-Disulfide Oxidoreductases BdbC and BdbD Can Suppress Cytochrome c Deficiency of CcdA-Defective Bacillus subtilis Cells
Cytochromes of the c type in the gram-positive bacterium Bacillus subtilis are all membrane anchored, with their heme domains exposed on the outer side of the cytoplasmic membrane. They are distinguished from other cytochromes by having heme covalently attached by two thioether bonds. The cysteinyls in the heme-binding site (CXXCH) in apocytochrome c must be

21. Cloning, sequence, and properties of the soluble pyridine nucleotide transhydrogenase of Pseudomonas fluorescens.
The gene encoding the soluble pyridine nucleotide transhydrogenase (STH) of Pseudomonas fluorescens was cloned and expressed in Escherichia coli. STH is related to the flavoprotein disulfide oxidoreductases but lacks one of the conserved redox-active cysteine residues. The gene is highly similar to an E. coli gene of unknown function.

22. Protein disulphide isomerase family members show distinct substrate specificity: P5 is targeted to BiP client proteins
At least 17 members of the protein disulphide isomerase (PDI) family of oxidoreductases are present in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) of mammalian cells. They are thought to catalyse disulphide formation to aid folding or to regulate protein function; however, little is known about their individual functions. Here, we show that some proteins that enter t

23. Properties of 2-Oxoglutarate:Ferredoxin Oxidoreductase from Thauera aromatica and Its Role in Enzymatic Reduction of the Aromatic Ring
Benzoyl coenzyme A (benzoyl-CoA) reductase is a key enzyme in the anaerobic metabolism of aromatic compounds catalyzing the ATP-driven reductive dearomatization of benzoyl-CoA. The enzyme from Thauera aromatica uses a reduced 2[4Fe-4S] ferredoxin as electron donor. In this work, we identified 2-oxoglutarate:ferredoxin oxidoreductase (KGOR) as the ferredoxin

24. Cloning and analysis of a locus (mcr) involved in mitomycin C resistance in Streptomyces lavendulae.
Two genes (mcrA and mcrB) from Streptomyces lavendulae that together confer resistance to mitomycin C were identified. This DNA appears to comprise a polycistronic operon with a drug-inducible leaderless mRNA. The deduced amino acid sequence of mcrA shows similarity to sequences of a special class of bacterial, plant, and animal oxygen oxidoreductases.
