1. Assesment of the Genotoxic Effect of the Diazinon on Root Cells of Allium cepa (L.)
ABSTRACT Organophosphorous pesticides (OPs) posses a great potential of acute toxicity for exposed animals and men. To evaluate the toxic potential of the organophosphate diazinon on root meristematic cells of Allium cepa L., was created two groups: In group 1 (control group), was not given any chemical. In group 2 (diazinon-treatment group), different doses

2. Evaluation of the Effects of Hofmeister Series on Salting Out in the Determination of Organophosphorous Pesticides and Pyrethroids by LDS/DLLME
Various greener microextraction procedures have been proposed with low limits of detection to control of pesticides present in the environment, including the low-density solvent dispersive liquid‑liquid microextraction (LDS/DLLME) technique. The addition of electrolytes is important in order to induce the salting-out effect. Thus, it is possible to use the

3. MONITORING OF ORGANOPHOSPHOROUS PESTICIDE RESDUES IN SAMPLES OF BANANA, PAPAYA, AND BELL PEPPER
The objective of this study was to monitor 11 organophosphorus pesticides in samples of papaya, bell pepper, and banana, commercialized in the metropolitan area of Vitória (ES, Brazil). The pesticides were determined by an optimized and validated method using high performance liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS/MS). All three sample

4. Effect of Dichlorvos on the acetylcholinesterase from tambaqui (Colossoma macropomum) Brain.
Dichlorvos is an acutely toxic organophosphorous pesticide that is known as a classical acetylcholinesterase (AChE; EC 3.1.1.7) inhibitor. Here, the brain AChE from the important Amazonian fish tambaqui (Colossoma macropomum) was assayed in the presence of this insecticide and also of deltamethrin, a classical sodium and potassium channel inhibitor (negative

6. TOXICITY OF AN ORGANOPHOSPHATE PESTICIDE IN THE PERIPHERAL AUDITORY SYSTEM: ANATOMIC AND FUNCTIONAL STUDY / TOXICIDADE DE AGROTÓXICO ORGANOFOSFORADO NO SISTEMA AUDITIVO PERIFÉRICO DE COBAIAS: ESTUDO ANATÔMICO E FUNCIONAL
The organophosphate pesticides are widely used in agriculture, and the widespread application of these agents, without the appropriate use of bio-security measures, has contributed to environmental degradation and the increased incidence of occupational poisoning, becoming one of the main public health problems in rural areas. Studies show that the ototoxic

7. Método multirresíduo para monitoramento de contaminação ambiental de pesticidas na região de Bauru (SP) usando mel como bio-indicador
The presence of residues of the major groups of pesticides (organohalogen, organophosphorous, pyrethroids and organonitrogen) in representative samples of honey produced in Bauru (state of São Paulo, Brazil) was investigated from 1999 through2004. A multiresidue method was applied to honey samples to determine 48 pesticides with recoveries ranging from 76 t

8. Effect of phenobarbital on inducing insecticide tolerance and esterase changes in Aedes aegypti (Diptera: Culicidae)
The effect of phenobarbital (PB) on the induction of tolerance to the organophosphorous insecticide temephos (TE) was investigated in Aedes aegypti L4 larvae submitted to two different PB-treatments:(1) continuous treatment from the egg to the larval L4 stage and (2) discontinuous treatment in which L4 larvae were exposed for 30 h. Mosquitoes from two Brazil

9. Effects of the organophosphorous methyl parathion on the branchial epithelium of a freshwater fish Metynnis roosevelti

Residues of pirimiphos-metil on wheat, corn and popcorn grains, in some of their processed products and residual action of the insecticide on Sitophilus spp. (Coleoptera, Curculionidae).
Organophosphorous poisoning at a chemical packaging company
ABSTRACT Six men packaging demeton-S-methyl concentrate developed organophosphorous poisoning. An account of the circumstances of the occurrence is given, together with the results of an investigation into the incidents. The clinical cases are described in outline and individual response to absorption of the pesticide considered. Some relevant issues on the

12. Neurological manifestations of organophosphorous insecticide poisoning
Neurological findings are described in 200 consecutive cases of suicidal ingestion of organophosphorous insecticides. Miosis is almost universal. We found impairment of consciousness in 10%, fasciculations in 27%, convulsions in 1%, toxic delirium in 50%, and paralysis in 26%. Toxic delirium was attributed to treatment with atropine. Paralytic signs were div
