1. Serotype changes and antimicrobial nonsusceptibility rates of invasive and non-invasive Streptococcus pneumoniae isolates after implementation of 10-valent pneumococcal nontypeable Haemophilus influenzae protein D conjugate vaccine (PHiD-CV) in Bulgaria
Abstract The 10-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV10) has been included in Bulgarian Childhood Immunization Program since 2010. This study aimed to assess serotype distribution and antimicrobial resistance of 198 invasive and non-invasive Streptococcus pneumoniae strains that had been isolated in Bulgaria during 2011-2016 from patients with invasive

2. Influence of clinical and socioeconomic indicators on dental trauma in preschool children
The aim of the present study was to determine the prevalence of traumatic dental injury (TDI) in the primary dentition and investigate associations with clinical and socioeconomic indicators. A population-based, cross-sectional study was carried out with a randomly selected sample of 301 children aged one to five years. Data were collected through clinical o

3. Immune response after rabies oral immunization in mice
The objective of this study was to formulate an anti-rabies oral vaccine from the cell culture vaccine PV TECPAR to elicit the production of antibodies against the rabies in mice. A vaccine was developed using 10(7.5) DL50/0.03 ml viral antigens homogenised in lanovaseline to facilitate oral administration. Mice were vaccinated two times for seroconversion.

4. Acute diarrhoea in a community cohort of children who received an oral rotavirus vaccine in Northeast Brazil
Rotavirus is an important cause of childhood diarrhoea. A monovalent rotavirus vaccine (Rotarix®) was introduced into the Immunization Program of Brazil in 2006. In this study, we describe the incidence and burden of disease of rotavirus diarrhoea in two cohorts of children (vaccinated and unvaccinated). We followed two groups of 250 children under one year

6. The adjuvant effect of the mesoporous nanostructurated SBA-15 silica in immunizations by the oral route.
The nanostructured SBA-15 silica is a polymer that due to its physicochemical properties shows great potential as a mucosal adjuvant. Immunization by the oral route of mice with Hepatitis A vaccine or human gama globulin adsorbed/encapsulated in SBA-15 revealed increases in the IgG e IgA specific antibody titers and showed that this silica does not interfere

7. Avaliação da resposta humoral à vacina pneumocócica conjugada 7-valente em crianças com asma moderada em uso de corticóide inalatório e em crianças com fibrose cística / Humoral immune response to 7-valent conjugated pneumococcal vaccine among children with moderate asthma in use of inhaled glucocorticosteroids and cystic fibrosis children
Pneumococcal infections are an important morbi-mortality cause among children. Until 2000, it was only available the 23-valent polysaccharide pneumococcal vaccine for children over two years old. This vaccine was recommended for cystic fibrosis (CF) children and to asthmatics children in use of oral corticosteroids, among other recommendations. From 2000, it

8. Atividade Anti-helmíntica e imunomoduladora de extratos de Cocos nucifera L. / Anthelmintic activity and immunomodulating extract of Cocos nucifera L.
The development of resistance to synthetic anthelmintic required the search for alternatives for control of gastrointestinal nematodes. Among these, there is the use of medicinal plants. The liquid from the bark of the green coconut (LBGC) was extracted from Cocos nucifera L, followed by obtaining the butanol extract from LBGC. The objectives of this study w

Oral administration of protein antigens, such as ovalbumin, may result in induction of either tolerance or immunization. Induction of immune responses is of great interest for development of oral vaccines. On the other hand, oral tolerance may represent a therapeutic solution to allergic and auto-immune diseases. Induction of oral tolerance depends on many f

The oral tolerance phenomenon and the regulation of pathogenic Th17 cells during the EAE model.
It has recently been shown the role of IL-17 secreting cells on the pathogenesis of multiple sclerosis and also in its model, EAE. Due to the secretion of this and other cytokines, the population so called Th17, promotes the disruption of the blood-brain barrier and the following infiltration of pathogenic cells into the CNS. In this context, in our work we

Toxoplasma gondii is a protozoan parasite which can invade and reside in a wide range of host cells. It can infect all warm-blooded animals, including human being. Parasite invasion is associated with protein secretion from three organelles: micronemes, rhoptries and dense granules. These excreted/secreted antigens were highly immunogenic in humans and roden
