1. Polyethersulfone Hollow Fiber Membranes Developed for Oily Emulsion Treatment
Polyethersulfone (PES) hollow fiber membranes were produced, containing 3% of two types of clay (Brasgel PA - MMT and Cloisite NA - CLNa), in order to modify the characteristics of the polyethersulfone membrane. By means of the X-ray diffraction, it was possible to observe an exfoliated and/or partially exfoliated structure in the membranes containing clay.

3. MICROEMULSION OF BRAZIL NUT OIL AS A NATURAL PRODUCT TO IMPROVE SUPEROXIDE RELEASE IN HUMAN PHAGOCYTES
The aim of this study was to develop and characterize a Brazil nut oil microemulsion system and determine the effect of this microemulsion on the superoxide release in human phagocytes. The microemulsion was formulated using distilled water, Brazil nut as the oily phase, Sorbitan monooleate, Polysorbate 80, and butan-1-ol. Hydrophile-lipophile balance of Bra

4. Oil Removal from Produced Water by Ultrafiltration using Polysulfone Membrane
Abstract The present paper deals with the ultrafiltration (UF) of produced water using a polysulfone membrane. Membranes were prepared by the phase inversion technique using polysulfone (PSf) polymer base, poly vinyl pyrrolidone (PVP) additive and N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP) solvent. Prepared UF membranes were characterized by determining the surface morpho

5. Developing novel one-step processes for obtaining food-grade O/W emulsions from pressurized fluid extracts: processes description, state of the art and perspectives
Abstract In this work, a novel on-line process for production of food-grade emulsions containing oily extracts, i.e. oil-in-water (O/W) emulsions, in only one step is presented. This process has been called ESFE, Emulsions from Supercritical Fluid Extraction. With this process, emulsions containing supercritical fluid extracts can be obtained directly from p

6. Influence of lubricant oil residual fraction on recycled high density polyethylene properties and plastic packaging reverse logistics proposal
Abstract To recycle post-consumer HDPE contaminated with waste lubricating oils, companies include prior washing and drying in the process. This consumes large amounts of water and energy, generates significant effluent requiring treatment. This study assesses lubricating oil influence on HDPE properties to evaluate the feasibility of its direct mechanical r

7. Effects of direct and alternating current on the treatment of oily water in an electroflocculation process
In the direct current mode (DC), widely used in electroflocculation (EC), the formation of an impermeable oxide layer on the cathode causes the declining of the efficiency of this process. This disadvantage has been reduced by adopting alternating current (AC). In this study, the effects of AC and DC on operational parameters such as the removal of oils and

8. Chitosan microspheres applied for removal of oil from produced water in the oil industry
The discharge of oily wastewaters in the environment is steadily increasing, causing serious damages. Among various treatment methods, adsorption is generally considered the most appropriate, since it can remove both organic and inorganic pollutants. Adsorption using low-cost alternative biopolymers for removal of contaminants from wastewater has been widely

9. MODELAGEM E SIMULAÇÃO DO TRATAMENTO DE ÁGUA OLEOSA USANDO HIDROCICLONES. / MODELING AND SIMULATION OF OILY WATER TREATMENT USING HYDROCYCLONES.

The petroleum industry produces significant amounts of residues in several of its processes, from the perforation of wells, production, storage, transport and refining, to the distribution of its derivatives. The wastewater generated in the oil extraction step is known as produced water and, when stored in flotation tanks, if generates a residue called oily

11. Incorporation of solid wastes in red ceramics: an updated review
A review on the fundamentals and technological advances in the incorporation of industrial solid wastes into red ceramics was updated since 1997, when the first overview on this subject was published by Dondi, Marsigli and Fabbri. Other works conducted before this period, but not covered by that overview were also reviewed. Modifications were introduced in t

The present work approaches aspects of oily water treatment, by using hydrocyclones, in a petroleum primary processing plant. It shows the hydrocyclone, its utilization in the petroleum industry and the flow phenomena occurring within it. Starting from the mass conservation and linear momentum conservation equations, assuming some hypothesis, one writes a di
