1. Large-Scale Spatial and Temporal Variability of Larval Fish Assemblages in the Tropical Atlantic Ocean
Abstract This study investigated the large-scale spatial and temporal variability of larval fish assemblages in the west tropical Atlantic Ocean. The sampling was performed during four expeditions. Identification resulted in 100 taxa (64 families, 19 orders and 17 suborders). During the four periods, 80% of the total larvae taken represented eight characteri

2. First record of Grapsus grapsus (Linnaeus, 1758) (Brachyura: Decapoda: Grapsidae) in freshwater habitat
Abstract The sally lightfoot crab, Grapsus grapsus (Linnaeus, 1758), has been recorded from the oceanic islands off Brazil, as well as from the Caribbean, in coastal rocky shores in the Eastern Pacific, and in Galapagos. We report the first observation of G. grapsus in freshwater habitat, registered in a stream at Trindade Island, Brazil.

3. Wide-range genetic connectivity of Coney, Cephalopholis fulva (Epinephelidae), through oceanic islands and continental Brazilian coast

4. Subspecies of Hypolepis rugosula (Dennstaedtiaceae; Pteridophyta) around the world: morphological and biogeographic perspectives
The "Hypolepis rugosula complex" has been the subject of great debate among pteridologists: some have considered H. rugosula a single subcosmopolitan (or circum-Antarctic) species, whereas others have considered it a species-complex, encompassing several species. In the 1920s and 1930s, four geographically distinct varietiesof H. rugosula were recognized. In

5. Rhodolith beds in Brazil: a new potential habitat for marine bioprospection
Rhodoliths are the free-living forms of a number of nongeniculate coralline algae. Rhodolith beds are a common feature of subtidal environments and have been recognized as important carbonate producers and paleoenvironmental indicators, as well as recognized as habitat-forming species. The rhodolith structure provides a hard three-dimensional substrate servi

6. Morfodinâmica associada entre duna, praia e zona submarina como subsídio a adequada ocupação do espaço costeiro na Praia do Peró - RJ. / Morphodynamics associated between dune, beach and underwater area as an aid to proper occupation of coastal space in Praia do Pero - RJ.
The coastline offers a veritable mosaic of diversity in coastal landforms, which enable the development of a number of different economic activities. Coastal environments are highly dynamic and involve a complex series of continental and oceanic processes. The beach of Pero, located between Cape Buzios and Cabo Frio, Rio coast, appears as an area distinct fr

7. A molecular method for the detection of sally lightfoot crab larvae (Grapsus grapsus, Brachyura, Grapsidae) in plankton samples
The decapod Grapsus grapsus is commonly found on oceanic islands of the Pacific and Atlantic coasts of the Americas. In this study, a simple, quick and reliable method for detecting its larvae in plankton samples is described, which makes it ideal for large-scale studies of larval dispersal patterns in the species.

8. Poluentes orgânicos persistentes na biota marinha do Arquipélago de São Pedro e São Paulo / Persistents Organic Pollutants in marine biota of the São Pedro e São Paulo Archipelago
Some oceanic islands, such as São Pedro e São Paulo Archipelago may be considered remote areas and preserved due to its distance from the mainland. However, these areas are not exempt from the influence of anthropogenic agents from coastal regions, such as persistent organic pollutants (POPs). This proposal aimed to determine the occurrence and distributio

9. Influência da composição de substrato do recife na atividade e distribuição de peixes zoobentívoros no arquipélago de Fernando de Noronha, Pernambuco / The influence of substratum composition on the activity and distribution of benthic carnivorous reef fishes of the Fernando de Noronha Archipelago
Reefs provide shelter and food for several fish species and, thus, there may be a correlation between the abundance and behaviour of fishes and the reef bottom composition-Physical factors, such as water movement and depth, may also have a profound impact in species distribuiton and activity on reefs. Here, the possible relationship between the distribution

10. Geobiologia do Atol das Rocas, Atlântico Sul Equatorial
This thesis approaches the geobiology of the only Atoll in the South Atlantic Ocean. Different classifications were made for Rocas Reef Complex along the nineteenth and twentieth century, which are evaluated historically. Biogeomorphological analysis and mapping of the reef units were done on the Rocas Atoll for the comprehension of the sedimentary dynamic a

11. Estrutura populacional e variabilidade genética de tartaruga verde (Chelonia mydas) da região de Cananéia, São Paulo / Populational structure and genetic variability of green sea turtle (Chelonia mydas) from Cananéia, São Paulo
The green turtle, Chelonia mydas, is an endangered marine reptile that nests and forages along the Brazilian coast and oceanic islands, among other tropical areas. Due to the highly migratory and oceanic nature of these animals, ecological studies are many times difficult to carry out, and many questions about their biology remain. Molecular genetic analysis
