1. An overview of the 2017 report of the French academy of Sciences on biodiversity
Abstract: In the present context of concerns for biodiversity, the French Academy of Sciences produced in 2017 a report entitled “Mechanisms of adaptation of biodiversity to climate change and their limits”. We briefly review here the production process and structure of the report, and summarize its conclusions and recommendations. The conclusions emphas

2. Os objetivos das visitas escolares a um observatório astronômico na visão dos professores
Among the many issues that museums, science centers and other scientific popularization places may broach, the Astronomy is the branch than raises more curiosity and fascination between people of all ages. Thus, spaces that provide the teaching and the popularization of this science for several types of public, like the astronomical observatories, become imp

4. Mudanças e permanências na cultura política das metrópoles brasileiras
This article discusses the formulations of the theoretical school known as the New Political Culture (NPC), seeking to evaluate the limits and possibilities of this approach for interpreting contemporary Brazilian culture. Based on research by the Network of Metropolitan Observatories in partnership with other Brazilian and international institutions, the au

5. Ensino de física solar em um espaço não formal de educação / Teaching solar physics in an informal educational space
Observatories and planetariums offer the possibility of developing contextualized astronomy teaching by fostering educational activities that provide access to a more authentic school science. Thus, this research consisted in developing, applying and evaluating courses about the Sun for middle, junior high school students and solar physics for high school st

6. New analyses of double-bang events in the atmosphere
We use CORSIKA+Herwig simulation code to produce ultra-high energy neutrino interactions in the atmosphere. Our aim is to reproduce extensive air showers originated by extragalactic tau-neutrinos. For charged current tau-neutrino interactions in the atmosphere, beside the air shower originated from the neutrino interaction, it is expected that a tau is creat

7. Neutrino signals from galactic binaries
We analyze the possible origin of high-energy neutrinos coming from galactic sources. A model is proposed for neutrino hadroproduction in binary systems. Our results show that neutrino observatories like IceCube can establish whether TeV neutrinos and gamma rays emitted by microquasars are the decay products of pions. Such pions can be produced where the jet

8. Desenvolvimento de um sistema de estereolitografia termica em tres dimensões na construção de prototipos com a aplicação do laser de CO2
We present in this work the use of infrared laser radiation to anchieve localized curing in thennosensitive polymers. In stereolithography the objective is to cure a localized region in a material by precisely confining the laser energy to the area that is to be cured. Industry already employs high-power ultraviolet laser radiation (HeCd laser @ 0,352 ~m) to

9. Prevalence of Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato-infected ticks on migrating birds.
The prevalence of Lyme disease Borrelia-infected ticks on migrating birds was studied in Scandinavia. A total of 22,998 birds were caught at eight different bird observatories and examined for ticks. Five different species of ticks were found infesting the birds. The dominant species, Ixodesricinus, constituted 98.3% of the ticks collected. The presence of s
