14. Arterial vascularization of the sinoatrial node area in normal human hearts / Vascularização arterial da região do nó sinoatrial em corações humanos normais
The sinoatrial node (NSA) is responsible for the production of the nervous impulses, which determine the cardiac contraction and its blood supply is provided by the sinoatrial node artery - ANSA. In this research we aimed to study the arterial vascularization of the NSA area in normal human hearts, with macroscopic techniques intending to identify the origin

18. Indirect measurement of sinoatrial conduction time in patients with sinoatrial disease and in controls.
Clinical recognition of sinoatrial disease currently depends on the presence of transient sinus bradycardia, sinoatrial block, or supraventricular tachyarrhythmias. The value of clinical electrophysiological assessment in these patients is not clear. Using intracardiac electrophysiological recordings and programmed stimulation we have examined 14 patients wi

19. Sinus node electrogram recording in 59 patients. Comparison with simultaneous estimation of sinoatrial conduction using premature atrial stimulation.
Directly measured sinoatrial conduction time was compared with sinoatrial conduction time assessed simultaneously by the single premature atrial stimulus technique in 59 patients: 20 with normal sinus function, 35 with sinus dysfunction, and four with sinus bradycardia but negative indirect methods. In patients with normal sinus function direct sinoatrial co

20. Sinoatrial disease in acute myocardial infarction. Long-term prognosis.
Of 32 patients with acute myocardial infarction complicated by sinoatrial disease, 23 survived. All 23 had inferior infarction. During follow-up lasting 4 to 6 years only one patient developed severe chronic sinoatrial disease (sick sinus syndrome) necessitating permanent pacemaker treatment; twelve others died during this time. In 2 of them death was sudden

21. Neurological aspects of sinoatrial heart block.
The symptoms of 100 patients with chronic cardiac sinoatrial disorder were analysed. The most common presenting features were syncope in 34 cases and dizziness in 22 cases. Over three-quarters of the patients had cerebral ischaemic symptoms at some stage of the disease. Diagnostic difficulties are often encountered and are illustrated by two case histories.

22. Sinus node function in the denervated human heart. Effect of digitalis.
Evaluation of sinus node function was performed in 5 patients with an intact cardiac autonomic nervous system (group I), and in 8 patients with a transplantated, denervated heart (group 2). After baseline data were recorded, the electrophysiological studies were repeated in all group I patients and in 6 of the 8 group 2 patients, 45 to 60 minutes after the a

23. Identification and properties of an ATP-sensitive K+ current in rabbit sino-atrial node pacemaker cells.
1. Single myocytes were isolated from rabbit sino-atrial (SA) node by enzymatic dissociation. Spontaneous pacemaker activity, whole-cell and single-channel currents were recorded under conditions known to modulate ATP-sensitive K+ (KATP) channels. 2. The KATP channel openers, cromakalim and pinacidil, slowed or abolished the pacemaker activity, and caused hy

24. Familial right ventricular dilated cardiomyopathy.
Cardiomyopathy of unknown cause occurred in three of six siblings. The course of the illness was marked by life threatening supraventricular and ventricular arrhythmias, sinoatrial block, atrioventricular block, and embolism (in one patient). The disease was characterised by right ventricular dilatation. Two of the three patients died aged 32 and 48. No new
