13. Beam Search and idle time insertion in the single-machine scheduling problem in a JIT environment. / Beam Search e inserção de ociosidade no problema de programação de uma máquina em ambiente do tipo JIT.
This work presents some procedures which can be used in production scheduling problems in JIT environments. These procedures may be used in cases of classical production scheduling where the use of the kanban system is infeasible. The case studied is based on a single machine, with multiple due dates, and distinct earliness and tardiness penalties for each j

14. Influences on Cocaine Tolerance Assessed under a Multiple Conjunctive Schedule of Reinforcement
Under multiple schedules of reinforcement, previous research has generally observed tolerance to the rate-decreasing effects of cocaine that has been dependent on schedule-parameter size in the context of fixed-ratio (FR) schedules, but not under the context of fixed-interval (FI) schedules of reinforcement. The current experiment examined the effects of coc

15. Effects of Minocycline and Other Antibiotics on Fusobacterium necrophorum Infections in Mice
Several antibiotics were evaluated in model infections produced in mice with each of two strains of Fusobacterium necrophorum. In one model, local abscesses occurred at the site of subcutaneous injection; in another intra-abdominal abscesses were produced when the organisms were injected into the peritoneal cavity. Treatment with effective antibiotics preven

16. Estimating the probability of initiated cell death before tumor induction
The effects of cell toxicity are known to be inherent in carcinogenesis induced by radiation or chemical carcinogens. The event of cell death precludes tumor induction from occurring. A long standing problem is to estimate the proportion of initiated cells that die before tumor induction. No experimental techniques are currently available for directly gaugin

17. Who defaults after treatment for gonorrhoea? Randomised controlled study of effect of an educational leaflet.
A study of patients with gonorrhoea showed that those who defaulted most from follow up were male, heterosexual, and had multiple sexual partners. A prospective, blind, randomised controlled trial showed that a leaflet giving information about gonorrhoea had a positive effect on follow up attendance by women, but no appreciable effect on rates of defaulting

18. Simulation of human serum pharmacokinetics of ticarcillin-clavulanic acid and ceftazidime in rabbits, and efficacy against experimental Klebsiella pneumoniae meningitis.
The penetration into cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and efficacy of ticarcillin-clavulanic acid, ticarcillin alone, and ceftazidime were compared in rabbits with experimentally induced Klebsiella pneumoniae meningitis. The compounds were administered to simulate in rabbit plasma the concentration-versus-time curves observed in humans after 30-min infusions of Tim

19. Scheduling A Multiple Operating Room System: A Simulation Approach
The advantages and disadvantages of various schedules for operating rooms are determined by the use of a Simscript simulation program. Input variables consist of actual data or are generated from their probability distributions by the Monte Carlo technique. The simulator assigns operating rooms, anesthetists, and nurses for each case when they are available.

20. Indomethacin serum concentrations in man. Effects of dosage, food, and antacid.
In the use of anti-inflammatory compounds, sustained serum levels are thought to be related to drug efficacy. This study shows that frequent clinical administration of indomethacin can result in sustained serum levels of the drug and that food and antacid may have important modifying effects on serum indomethacin concentrations. After oral ingestion by fasti

21. Optimizing the Germfree Mouse Model for In Vivo Evaluation of Oral Vibrio cholerae Vaccine and Vector Strains
The germfree mouse model of Vibrio cholerae infection can be used to judge immune responses to V. cholerae vaccine and vector strains. In the original model, a single oral inoculation was administered on day 0, a booster oral inoculation was administered on day 14, and immune responses were analyzed with samples collected on day 28. Unfortunately, immune res

22. Effect of a potent interferon inducer on acute and chronic lactic dehydrogenase virus viremia.
The effect of a single and multiple doses of polyinosinic-polycytidylic acid (poly (I). poly(C) on lactic dehydrogenase virus viremia has been studied. A single injection of 200 mug of poly (I)-poly(C) given 6 h before infection with lactic dehydrogenase virus caused a temporary decrease in viremia of about 2.5 log10. Repeated injections of 100 mug of poly(I

23. Multiple-dose pharmacokinetics of ceftazidime in cancer patients.
The pharmacokinetic parameters of ceftazidime were determined in 25 patients with neoplastic diseases. A group of 13 patients each received 1 g of ceftazidime over 15 min as a single intravenous dose. The mean peak drug concentration in serum was 77.4 micrograms/ml, and the serum half-life was 144 min. Urinary excretion at 12 h was 64.5%. These 13 patients a

24. Administration of Liposomal Agents and Blood Clearance Capacity of the Mononuclear Phagocyte System
As liposomes are cleared from the circulation to a substantial extent by the phagocytic cells of the mononuclear phagocyte system (MPS), there is a question whether administration of liposome-based therapeutic agents interferes with clearance of infectious organisms by the MPS from blood. In the present study, at first the effect of administration of three t
