1. Numerical implementation of a micromechanics-based viscoelastic model for geomaterials with isotropically distributed micro-fractures
Abstract The constitutive behavior of geomaterials is generally affected by the presence at different scales of discontinuity surfaces with different sizes and orientations. According to their mechanical behavior, such discontinuities can be distinguished as cracks or fractures. Fractures are interfaces that can transfer normal and tangential stresses, where

2. Influence of the Micromechanics Models and Volume Fraction Distribution on the Overall Behavior of SiC/Al Functionally Graded Pressurized Cylinders
Abstract The assessment of the differences in results obtained from various micromechanics homogenization schemes, as well as the implications of assuming different volume fraction profiles was carried out in the present work. The functionally graded composite chosen for the analysis was Al-SiC and comparisons were made in terms of stress and strain distribu

3. Anisotropic Strength of Granular Material Considering Fabric Evolution
Abstract The effect of fabric anisotropy on strength has not been considered in most strength criterions for granular material. Some criterions can describe the variation of material strength with stress-induced anisotropy, but micro-mechanism and physical meanings are undefined. Some criterions consider the effect of fabric anisotropy, but the evolution of

4. Prediction of Shape Distortions in Composite Wing Structures
Abstract Shape distortions and warpage are a major source of problems for composite manufacturers. These distortions are usually accompanied by built up residual stresses. They can deform a component so that it becomes useless. It also has the capability to reduce the strength of the structure. In this paper, the three-dimensional version of the constitutive

5. Multiscale Failure Analysis of Cylindrical Composite Pressure Vessel: A Parametric Study
Abstract This paper deals with a multiscale approach to model thick-walled laminate cylinder with internal pressure. Micromechanics defines material homogenization considering two steps: determination of equivalent properties of each lamina from matrix and fiber properties according to the Mori-Tanaka model for elastic properties and to the Bridging model fo

6. On Micro-Buckling of Unidirectional Fiber-Reinforced Composites by Means of Computational Micromechanics
Abstract Micro-buckling of unidirectional fiber-reinforced composites is investigated in this paper by means of an explicit representation of a geometrically imperfect fiber within the context of kinematical and material non-linear behavior. Two types of fiber imperfections are considered: a helicoidal shape, identified as 3D imperfection; and a sinusoidal p

7. A Model for Homogenization of Linear Viscoelastic Periodic Composite Materials with Imperfect Interface
Abstract In this paper, a micromechanical extension of the finite-volume direct averaging micromechanics theory (FVDAM) is presented for evaluation of the homogenized relaxation moduli of linear viscoelastic unidirectional fiber reinforced composites with periodic microstructures. Such materials are assumed as composed of repeating unit cell with arbitrary i

8. Uma contribuição para a modelagem numérica da heterogeneidade do concreto com o método de Galerkin livre de elementos. / A contribution to the numerical modeling of the heterogeneity of concrete with the element free Galerkin method.

9. A micromechanics approach to assess effects of constraint on cleavage fracture toughness: a weibull stress model
This work describes an engineering methodology incorporating the statistics of microcracks and a probability distribution of the (local) fracture stress to assess the effects of constraint loss and weld strength mismatch on crack-tip driving forces. One purpose of this investigation is to establish a definite fracture assessment framework capable of providin

10. Fracture morphology of carbon fiber reinforced plastic composite laminates
Carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) composites have been extensively used in fabrication of primary structures for aerospace, automobile and other engineering applications. With continuous and widespread use of these composites in several advanced technology, the frequency of failures is likely to increase. Therefore, to establish the reasons for failures

11. Modeling of work hardening behaviour of high Mn and low C polycristalline austenitic steel with twip effect
The steel of this work, 0.06C-25Mn-3Al-2Si-1Ni steel, presenting TWIP effect, was hot and cold rolled and then annealed at temperatures between 600 and 850ºC. The microstructure examination was focused in the recrystallization during annealing for different temperatures through optical and scanning electron microscopy. The volume fraction and recrystallized

12. Análise experimental e teórica do comportamento mecânico sob carregamentos quase-estáticos de compósitos reforçados com fibras vegetais / Theoretical and experimental analysis of mechanical behavior under quasi-static loads of vegetable fibers reinforced composites
