Characterization of neuro-humoral pathways involved in delayed gastric emptying of liquids due to mechanical right atrial stretch in awake rats.
Right atrium mechanical stretch (AS) increases gastric motility in anesthetized rats. We aimed to study the effect of AS on gastric emptying (GE) in awake rats and the related neuro-humoral pathways ivolved. Male albino rats (N=361, 250-280g) had a silicone balloon inserted in the right atrium. After 24-h, the central venous pressure (CVP), heart rate (HR) a

3. Probing the SERCA1a sarcoplasmic reticulum Ca2+-ATPase phosphorylation-site mutant D351E with inorganic phosphate
The expression of sarcoplasmic reticulum SERCA1a Ca2+-ATPase wild-type and D351E mutants was optimized in yeast under the control of a galactose promoter. Fully active wild-type enzyme was recovered in yeast microsomal membrane fractions in sufficient amounts to permit a rapid and practical assay of ATP hydrolysis and phosphoenzyme formation from ATP or Pi.

4. Purinergic central pathways involved in the muscle blood flow regulation during alerting defense behaviours. / Vias centrais purinérgicas envolvidas na regulação do fluxo sangüíneo muscular durante os comportamentos de alerta e defesa
The electrical stimulation (ES) of the hypothalamus in the rat produces a well- defined pattern of cardiovascular adjustments including hypertension, tachycardia and skeletal muscle vasodilation. These hemodynamic responses can also be observed in natural conditions during fight and/or flight behaviors. However the neural pathways and possible neurotransmitt

5. P2X1 receptors and the endothelium
Adenosine triphosphate (ATP) is now established as a principle vaso-active mediator in the vasculature. Its actions on arteries are complex, and are mediated by the P2X and P2Y receptor families. It is generally accepted that ATP induces a bi-phasic response in arteries, inducing contraction via the P2X and P2Y receptors on the smooth muscle cells, and vasod

6. Proerectile effect of an alkaloidical rich fraction isolated from aspidosperma ulei markgr.: in vivo and in vitro study. / Efeito pró-erétil de uma fração rica em alcalóides isolada de aspidosperma ulei markgr.: estudo in vivo e in vitro
The genus Aspidosperma (Apocyanaceae) is known to be rich in yohimbine type of indol alkaloids. This study was aimed to evaluate the alkaloid rich fraction (SF3-5) obtained from Aspidiosperma ulei Markgr. root bark for its general toxicity, behavioral effects in mice and a possible proerectile activity. Acute toxicity tests were performed to determine the LD

7. The mechanism of gentisic acid-induced relaxation of the guinea pig isolated trachea: the role of potassium channels and vasoactive intestinal peptide receptors
We examined some of the mechanisms by which the aspirin metabolite and the naturally occurring metabolite gentisic acid induced relaxation of the guinea pig trachea in vitro. In preparations with or without epithelium and contracted by histamine, gentisic acid caused concentration-dependent and reproducible relaxation, with mean EC50 values of 18 µM and Ema

8. Metabolic Regulation of Cytoplasmic DNA Synthesis
The regulation of cytoplasmic DNA synthesis by the metabolites ATP and citrate has been demonstrated. Other ribonucleoside and deoxyribonucleoside triphosphates as well as α,β-methylene- and β,γ-methylene-ATP and α,β-methylene-ADP are able to partially substitute for ATP in stimulating the rate of DNA synthesis with the cytoplasmic DNA polymerase (DNA

9. Nucleotide-stimulated proteolysis of histone H1.
We have identified a proteolytic system that selectively degrades histone H1 in normal human lymphocytes. Treatment of permeabilized human lymphocytes with a series of nucleotides produced a marked decrease in their histone H1 content compared to untreated cells. The nucleotide-stimulated process was selective for histone H1 because gel electrophoresis showe

10. Noradrenaline and adenosine triphosphate as co-transmitters of neurogenic vasoconstriction in rabbit mesenteric artery.
The largest rami caecales of the ileocolic artery, which is a branch of the mesenteric artery, were perfused at a constant rate of flow. Either vasoconstriction (as an increase in perfusion pressure) or the release of previously incorporated [3H]-noradrenaline was measured. Noradrenaline and ATP, but not carbachol, serotonin, adenosine, Arg-vasopressin and n

11. P2 purinoceptor-mediated depolarization of rat supraoptic neurosecretory cells in vitro.
1. Intracellular recordings were obtained from supraoptic magnocellular neurosecretory cells (MNCs) in superfused explants of rat hypothalamus. Application of ATP and UTP, but not adenosine, produced TTX-insensitive depolarizations accompanied by increases of input conductance. 2. The P2X agonists alpha,beta-methylene ATP, beta,gamma-methylene ATP and 2-meth

12. Both ATP and the peptide VIP are inhibitory neurotransmitters in guinea-pig ileum circular muscle.
1. Intracellular membrane potential recordings were made from circular smooth muscle cells of the guinea-pig ileum in the presence of atropine (1 microM) and nifedipine (0.1 microM) at 30 degrees C. 2. Perfusion with adenosine triphospate (ATP, 100 microM) and vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP, 2 microM) resulted in membrane hyperpolarizations of 6.4 +/- 0.
