13. Application of the rigid finite element method to modelling ropes
Two-dimensional motion of a rope fixed at one end is considered. The Rigid Finite Element Method (RFEM) is reviewed and applied to obtain a model of the rope, including its elastic and dissipative properties. Equations of motion are derived without the small displacement assumption, using the Lagrange equations. The resulting model is compared to another one

14. Simulação computacional de escoamentos reativos com baixo número Mach aplicando técnicas de refinamento adaptativo de malhas / Computational simulation of low Mach number reacting flows applying adaptive mesh refinement techniques.
It is the main goal of the present work to extend a numerical methodology based on both the use of an adaptive mesh refinement technique (AMR) and the use of a multistep, implicit-explicit time-step strategy (IMEX) to applications involving low Mach number reactive flows. Originally developed for incompressible flows, the Eulerian formulation of that methodo

15. Avaliação do acoplamento explícito entre simulação de reservatório e sistema de produção / Evaluation of explicit coupling between reservoir simulator and production facilities system
Various methodologies to model the coupling of reservoirs and production systems have been applied in the oil industry in recent years due to the need to model properly the integrated solution of models that represent the flow of fluids through the reservoir to the surface. These methodologies are used to forecast production of multiple reservoirs, sharing p

16. Molecular dynamics and formation of domains in block copolymers studied by high and low resolution NMR / Dinâmica molecular e formação de domínios em copolímeros em bloco estudados por RMN de alta e baixa resolução
The main objective of this dissertation is the use of NMR methods to characterize the phase separation and, to some extent, the dynamics of the molecular segments in block copolymers. In the first part, NMR Spin Diffusion methods were explored in order to evaluate their performance as well as the main experimental difficulties. For that, a reference tri-bloc

17. Um estudo comparativo de mÃtodos de simulaÃÃo de tecidos virtuais atravÃs de sistemas de partÃculas / A comparative study of methods for simulation of virtual fabrics with particulate systems
Physically based cloth animation has gained much attention from researchers in the last two decades, due to the challenges of realism and performance placed by the film and game industries, as well as by the applications of virtual reality and e-commerce. Consequently, there have been overwhelming achievements in this area, and several approaches have been p

18. Estudo de alguns métodos clássicos de otimização restrita não linear / Study of some classic methods for constrained nonlinear optimization

19. Stability analysis of carbon nanotubes based on a novel beam model and its comparison with Sanders shell model and molecular dynamics simulations
We study the effects of small-scale parameter on the buckling loads and strains of nanobeams, based on nonlocal Timoshenko beam model. However, the lack of higherorder boundary conditions leads to inconsistencies in critical buckling loads. In this paper, we apply a novel approach based on nonlocal Timoshenko kinematics, strain gradient approach and variatio

20. Otimização e dinâmica dos fluidos computacional aplicadas a turbinas eólicas
The present work consists in the application of optimization methods and computational fluid dynamics to wind turbines. The massive growth in renewable energies demands more powerful turbines and more accuracy in their design and analysis. This work has three objectives: optimization of an airfoil for wind turbines, simulation of a wind turbine airfoil in de

21. Estudo da perda de carga e calor no poço injetor no processo De drenagem gravitacional assistida por vapor (SAGD)
The oil companies in the area in general are looking for new technologies that can increase the recovery factor of oil contained in reservoirs. These investments are mainly aimed at reducing the costs of projects which are high. Steam injection is one of these special methods of recovery in which steam is injected into the reservoir in order to reduce the vi

22. Sobre modelos e métodos de estimação de direção de chegada de sinais em sistemas digitais de comunicação sem fio / On models and methods for direction of arrival estimation of signals in digital wireless communication systems
This thesis deals with the problem of estimating the direction of arrival of digitally modulated signals, specifically found in the uplink of multiuser wireless communication systems where the base station uses an antenna array. The main objectives of the thesis are: to clarify some details normally not treated in the description of the data models assumed i

23. NUMERICAL ANALYSIS OF SAND CONTROL METHODS IN OIL-PRODUCING ROCKS / ANÁLISE NUMÉRICA DE MEDIDAS DE CONTENÇÃO DE SÓLIDOS EM ROCHAS PRODUTORAS DE ÓLEO DO BRASIL
During the production steps of a petroleum well, issues regarding sand production may have hight costs due to damages in the equipment or reduction of the well¿s productivity. Such problems make the application of sand control systems in the completion phase one of the most complex and essential parts in the construction of the well. This work aims to simul

24. Comportamento crítico da produção de entropia em modelos com dinâmicas estocásticas competitivas / Critical behavior of entropy production in models with competitive stochastic dynamics
We study kinetic phase transitions and the critical behavior of the entropy production in spin models with nearest neighbor interactions subject to two Glauber dynamics, which simulate two thermal baths at different temperatures. In this way, it is assumed that the system corresponds to a continuous time Markov process which obeys the master equation. Thus,
