1. Rapid Detection of ACTG- and AK-Toxins in Alternaria alternata by LC-ESI-MS/MS Analysis and Antifungal Properties of Citrus Compounds
A methanol-soluble fraction of the dichloromethane extract from the culture broth of A. alternata AT4303 strain afforded the following five known mycotoxins: alternariol, alternariol monomethyl ether, altenusin, altenuene and altertoxin I. A hexane-soluble fraction of the dichloromethane extract yielded the steroids ergosterol and ergosterol peroxide, and al

2. Bioactive fractions from cantabrian anchovy (Engraulis encrarischolus) viscera
Abstract The potential of cantabrian anchovy (Engraulis encrarischolus) viscera as a source of bioactive compounds is of interest for both, pharmaceutical and food industries. Cantabrian anchovy guts and heads were freeze-dried, extracted with methanol and subjected to fractionation by solvent partitioning using hexane, ethyl acetate, and butanol. Fractions

3. Sperm Quality and Testicular Histomorphometry of Wistar Rats Supplemented with Extract and Fractions of Fruit of Tribulus terrestris L.
ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to assess the sperm quality and testicular histomorphometry of Wistar rats supplemented with extract and fractions of fruits of Tribulus terrestris L. The ethanolic extract was obtained by dynamic maceration of spray-dried fruit. This extract was fractionated by liquid-liquid partition, using increasing polarity solvents. T

4. A simple procedure for the purification of active fractions in aqueous extracts of plants with allelopathic properties
Most studies conducted to test the allelopathic activity of plant parts have made use of water as solvent. However, the presence of polar, water-soluble substances, such as proteins and carbohydrates, tends to hamper the purification of active compounds. In this study, we present a simple purification procedure that separates the active fraction of the extra

6. Preparação de compostos orgânicos aplicados a síntese eletroquímica de polímeros eletroluminescentes
The discussion presented in this masters degree dissertation resulted in a study about the development of synthesis routes for obtaining the following organic compounds: 4-(decyloxy)-2,5-bis(dibromomethyl)benzonitrile and 2,5-bis(dibromomethyl)-4-(pentyloxy)benzonitrile. The interest in produced such compounds is related to the preparation, by electrochemica

9. Inhibition of metabolic cooperation by cigarette smoke condensate and its fractions in V-79 Chinese hamster lung fibroblasts.
This study was performed to determine the usefulness of the intercellular metabolic cooperation assay for analysis of a complex mixture and to compare the results obtained with previously conducted in vivo tumor promoter assays. One hundred 2R1 cigarettes were smoked according to Federal Trade Commission guidelines and the resulting condensate was separated

10. Oxidation of C1 compounds by particulate fractions from Methylococcus capsulatus: properties of methanol oxidase and methanol dehydrogenase.
Methanol (and formaldehyde) oxidizing activities in crude extracts of Methylococcus capsulatus are associated mainly with particulate fractions sedimenting between 3,000 and 40,000 X g. Most of the phenazine methosulfate (PMS)-dependent methanol (and formaldehyde) dehydrogenase activity observed resides in the soluble fraction but represents only 40% of the

11. Induction of Protease Activity in Vibrio anguillarum by Gastrointestinal Mucus
The effect of gastrointestinal mucus on protease activity in Vibrio anguillarum was investigated. Protease activity was measured by using an azocasein hydrolysis assay. Cells grown to stationary phase in mucus (200 μg of mucus protein/ml) exhibited ninefold-greater protease activity than cells grown in Luria-Bertani broth plus 2% NaCl (LB20). Protease induc

12. Characterization of a partially purified methanol-soluble heat-stable Escherichia coli enterotoxin in infant mice.
While studying the involvement of cyclic adenosine 3',5'-monophosphate (cAMP) in the fluid secretion caused by heat-stable enterotoxin (ST) from Escherichia coli P16 in infant mice, it was noted that the culture filtrate containing ST also contained large amounts of cAMP. The present paper details attempts to obtain a cAMP-free ST preparation. The organisms
