1. Effect of sintering temperature on mechanical and bioactivity properties of bioactive glass and cordierite composite
Abstract In this study, a composite of bioactive glass (BG) and cordierite (BG-cord) was proposed to increase the strength and bioactivity of BG. Both BG and cordierite were separately synthesized with the method of glass melting, then, they were used to fabricate BG-cord with a variation of sintering temperature (600 to 1000 °C). The highest diametral tens

2. Comparative analysis of butter thermal behavior in combination with bovine tallow
Abstract Assessment of butter authenticity in combination with animal fat is a major challenge. Changing the butter composition can affect crystallization and polymorphism properties. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the thermal behavior of butter combined with (0-15% w/w) bovine tallow using Digital Calorimetric Scanning, and to determine fatty aci

3. Zn2Al Layered Double Hydroxides Intercalated with Nitrate and p-Aminobenzoate as Ultraviolet Protective Agents in Low-Density Polyethylene Nanocomposites and Natural Insulating Oils
Zn2Al-Cl and Zn2Al-NO3 layered double hydroxides (LDHs) were synthesized through the fixed pH co-precipitation method and used as precursor materials for the intercalation of p-aminobenzoate through anion exchange reactions. Since chloride in Zn2Al-Cl was only partially exchanged with p-aminobenzoate, the phases Zn2Al-NO3 and Zn2Al-N -AB (nitrate exchanged w

4. Effects of Heat Treatment and Yb 3+ Concentration on the Downconversion Emission of Er 3+ /Yb 3+ Co-Doped Transparent Silicate Glass-Ceramics
The SiO2-Al2O3-BaF2-TiO2-CaF2 transparent silicate glass-ceramics containing BaF2 nanocrystals were successfully prepared by heat treatment process through conventional melting method. Effects of heat treatment processes and Yb3+ concentration on the downconversion (DC) emission of the co-doped Er3+/Yb3+ transparent silicate glass-ceramics were investigated.

5. PHASE BEHAVIOR DATA AND THERMODYNAMIC MODELING OF THE BINARY SYSTEM {CO2 + COUMARIN} AT HIGH PRESSURES
Abstract In this work, vapor - liquid (VLE) equilibrium for the binary system carbon dioxide (1) + coumarin (2) at high pressures was measured by a static synthetic method using a variable-volume view cell. Experimental data were obtained in the temperature range of 318 - 338 K and pressures up to 20 MPa. Coumarin molar fraction ranged from 3.0x10-3 to 6.0x1

7. Comparison of Aluminum Based Alloys Reinforced with Intermetallic Developed by Powder Metallurgy and Arc Melting Routes
Abstract In this work, Al-Ti alloys were prepared using metallic powders of Al and Ti via Powder Metallurgy (PM) and Arc Melting (AM) route. Four chemical compositions including pure aluminum were studied. Metallic powders were mixed with three compositions, Al-5Ti, Al-10Ti and Al-10Ti-2SiC. All the compositions were in atomic percentage. In case of PM, samp

8. An Alternative and Simple Method for the Preparation of Bare Silica Nanoparticles Using Sugarcane Waste Ash, an Abundant and Despised Residue in the Brazilian Industry
Sugarcane waste ash, a Si-rich waste product, is generated in large quantities and creates a serious disposal problem in the Brazilian ethanol-sugar industry, affecting the environment and public health. Here, a simple method capable of generating bare silica nanoparticles utilizing this residue is demonstrated. Firstly, the crystalline silica present in sug

9. High-resolution topography for Digital Terrain Model (DTM) in Keller Peninsula, Maritime Antarctica
Abstract High resolution topography (HRT) surveys is an important tool to model landscapes, especially in zones subjected to strong environmental changes, such as Antarctica, where landform is highly influenced by cryoclasty and permafrost melting. The aim of this work was to obtain a high accurate DTM for Keller Peninsula, Maritime Antarctica. The survey st

12. Novos surfactantes alquil poliglicosídicos à base de amilose extraída da batata inglesa (Solanum tuberosum L.)
Alkyl polyglycosides (APGs) are new biodegradable surfactants, non-toxic, synthesized from abundant renewable sources, potentially more appropriate than anionic surfactants. A range of glycosides denoted APG-Cy was synthesized by the Köenig-Knorr reaction using C10, C16 and C18 alcohols and derived from the degradation of amylose from English potato. The mo
