25. Usos múltiplos e qualidade das águas da Bacia do Baixo Itajaí-Açú-SC: elementos para um gerenciamento integrado.
The Itajaí-Açu river watershed is characterized by moderate agricultural use and rapid urban development. The risks on freshwater resources are notorious, but there is a lack of systematic technical data to qualify the level of degradation and to support decisions and forecasting. The main purpose of the present study was to diagnose the water quality of t

"Marcadores orgânicos geoquímicos em testemunhos de sedimento do Sistema Estuarino de Santos e São Vicente, SP: um registro histórico da introdução de hidrocarbonetos no ambiente marinho" / Geochemical organic markers in sediment cores of the Santos-São Vicente Estuary, SP: a historical register of the introduction of hydrocarbons in the marine environment
Estuarine areas are environments between land and ocean, where human activities are intensively developed. The Santos and São Vicente Estuary, located on the central portion of the coast of São Paulo state, has one of the most important industrial areas of Brazil. The increasing of urbanization and industrialization near the margins of Estuary, in the 50

27. Avaliação de variações bioquímicas em moluscos bivalves em resposta ao estresse ambiental / Evaluation of biochemical variations in bivalve molluscs in response to environmental stress
In this work, some biochemical systems were evaluated in different tissues of bivalve mollusks, in response to different stress, in order to verify the possibility of use of these systems as pollution bioindicators in marine environmental monitoring studies, as well as to verify the influence of environmental variations not related to pollution on these syst

28. Opinions on the potential for bacteria to degrade derived from oil and produce biossurfactantes / AvaliaÃÃo do potencial de bactÃrias para degradar derivados do petrÃleo e produzir biossurfactantes

30. Evaluation of fecal sterols and geochemical markers hydrocarbons in sediments from Admiralty Bay, Antartica. / "Avaliação de introdução de esteróis fecais e hidrocarbonetos marcadores geoquímicos em sedimentos da Baía do Almirantado, Península Antártica"
Sewage and oil contribution are the main sources of pollution from the scientific stations to the antarctic marine environment. Sterols and hydrocarbons such as n-alkanes, polyciclic aromatics (PAHs) and linear alkylbenzenes (LABs) were investigated on surface sediments from Admiralty Bay, King George Island, Antarctica, collected during austral summer of 19

31. Um Sistema de Vigilância Marítima Aplicado à Poluição Marinha por Petróleo no Brasil / A Maritime Surveillance System Applied to Marine Pollution by Oil in Brazil

32. Genetically Modified Vibrio harveyi Strains as Potential Bioindicators of Mutagenic Pollution of Marine Environments
For biodetection of mutagenic pollution of marine environments, an organism naturally occurring in these habitats should be used. We found that marine bacterium Vibrio harveyi may be an appropriate bioindicator of mutagenic pollution. For positive selection of mutants, we developed a simple method for isolation of V. harveyi mutants resistant to neomycin. We

34. Survey of human enterovirus occurrence in fresh and marine surface waters on Long Island.
A variety of surface water systems, including a lake, a creek, and two marine embayments, were analyzed on a monthly basis for indigenous human enteroviruses and coliform bacteria. Findings are discussed in terms of the probable pollution sources to each system and their relationship to data from previous studies.

35. Mercury selection of allozymes in marine organisms: Prediction and verification in nature
The geographic distributions of mercury-tolerant allozyme genotypes of the enzyme phosphoglucomutase in the shrimp Palaemon elegans and the enzyme phosphoglucose isomerase in the marine gastropod Monodonta turbinata were compared in a mercury-polluted site versus several unpolluted sites on the Israeli coast of the Mediterranean sea. We conclude that in both

36. Occurrence of False-Positive Most Probable Number Tests for Fecal Streptococci in Marine Waters1
By the use of the most probable number technique with azide dextrose and ethyl violet azide broths for enterococci, the common occurrence of false-positive tests was noted when marine and estuarine waters were sampled. Organisms isolated included a marine bacterium, gram-positive and gram-negative nonmarine bacteria, and yeasts. All cultures were capable of
