1. MODEL PREDICTIVE CONTROL FOR PRODUCTION OF ULTRA-LOW SULFUR DIESEL IN A HYDROTREATING PROCESS
ABSTRACT There is a continual desire around the world to reduce the sulphur content of diesel fuel to ultra-low levels (below 10 ppm) due to environmental concerns and the intention of improving air quality and lowering harmful exhaust emissions of diesel engines. In this work, a hydrodesulfurization unit fed with multiple diesel streams was addressed using

3. Dairy manure wastewater in serial UASB reactors for energy recovery and potential effluent reuse
Abstract This manuscript addresses the use of dairy manure wastewater (DMW) as a substrate for methane production in a high rate system - two serial UASB reactors - and the characterization of the effluent in the different phases of the treatment. Two experimental conditions were applied. In the first, the organic load rate (OLR) was 6.2 gCODtotal L-1 d-1 an

4. NOVO SORVENTE DE HIDROFOBICIDADE REDUZIDA PARA EXTRAÇÃO EM FASE SÓLIDA: PREPARAÇÃO E CARACTERIZAÇÃO
C18 chemically bonded sorbents have been the main materials used in solid phase extraction (SPE). However, due their high hydrophobicity some hydrophobic solutes are strongly retained leading to the consumption of larger quantities of organic solvent for efficient recoveries. This work presents a sorbent with lower hydrophobicity but similar selectivity to t

5. Catalytic oxidation of volatile organic compounds (n-hexane, benzene, toluene, o-xylene) promoted by cobalt catalysts supported on γ-Al2O3-CeO2
Cobalt catalysts supported on γ-alumina, ceria and γ-alumina-ceria, with 10 or 20%wt of cobalt load, prepared by the wet impregnation method and characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), field emission transmission electron microscopy (FETEM), N2 adsorption-desorption isotherms (BET/BJH methods), energy-dispersive X-ray

6. Treatment of dairy wastewater with a membrane bioreactor
Among the food industries, the dairy industry is considered to be the most polluting one because of the large volume of wastewater generated and its high organic load. In this study, an aerobic membrane bioreactor (MBR) was used for the treatment of wastewater from a large dairy industry and two hydraulic retention times (HRT), 6 and 8 hours, were evaluated.

7. Comunidade fitoplanctônica no monitoramento de rios do estado de São Paulo / Phytoplankton community in monitoring rivers of São Paulo state
There are few studies conducted on phytoplankton inhabiting the rivers. In São Paulo State many of the abstraction of water for public supply are located in lowland rivers and streams of low gradient and have a lot of dam built in their courses, and the presence of lateral lakes and small dams to capture water, contributing to the development of planktonic

8. Microbiological biodiversity in poultry and paddy straw wastes in composting systems
Immense quantity of waste is generated in association with poultry meat egg and crop production. The potential risks due to disposal of these wastes are magnified as a result of dense refinement of poultry production and the decreasing amount of land available for waste disposal. The study aims at studying the microbiological biodiversity of poultry waste an

9. ProduÃÃo de Ãcidos graxos volÃteis por biodigestÃo anaerÃbia da manipueira / Production of volatile fatty acids by anaerobic biodigestion of manipueira
The cultivation of cassava extends throughout Brazil because of its excellent adaptation to different soils and climatic conditions. Our country occupies the second position at the worldwide ranking in cultivating this plant (15% of the world production). The industrial processing of cassava generates a liquid waste, the so called manipueira, considered as a

10. Macrobenthic community structure in a Brazilian chocked lagoon system under environmental stress
Saquarema-Jaconé lagoonal system (SJLS) comprises a sequence of five interconnected shallow brackish lagoons with access to the sea by a single permanent tidal channel. It is a eutrophic system, receiving constant input of organic load from its urbanized catchments. The relationship between several environmental variables and the spatial-temporal distributi

11. Diagnóstico ecotoxicológico dos efluentes lançados no complexo estuarino do Jundiaí/Potengi, Natal/RN
Untreated effluents that reach surface water affect the aquatic life and humans. This study aimed to evaluate the wastewaters toxicity (municipal, industrial and shrimp pond effluents) released in the Estuarine Complex of Jundiaí- Potengi, Natal/RN, through chronic quantitative e qualitative toxicity tests using the test organism Mysidopsis Juniae, CRUSTACE
