2. Ovary and fruit morphology and anatomy of Amphilophium crucigerum
Abstract Amphilophium crucigerum (L.) L.G. Lohmann, known as “pente-de-macaco” is a species of Bignoniaceae native to Brazil, and whose seeds are used in folk medicine. This study aimed to describe morphoanatomical features of this species of fruit to aid in its correct identification and pharmacognostic analysis. Samples of ovary, pericarp and seed were

3. Anatomical and morphological modifications in response to flooding by six Cerrado tree species
Wetlands are common in the Cerrado (Brazilian savannas) biome, however flooding of these wetlands impairs growth and development of most plants. We evaluated flood tolerance of typical Cerrado trees. Seedlings of Aspidosperma macrocarpon (Apocynaceae), Tabebuia rosea (Bignoniaceae), Handroanthus chrysotrichus (Bignoniaceae), Myracrodruon urundeuva (Anacardia

4. Sobrevivência, morfo-anatomia, crescimento e assimilação de carbono de seis espécies arbóreas neotropicais submetidas à saturação hídrica do solo / Survival, morpho-anatomy, growth and carbon assimilation of six neotropical tree species submitted to flooding
Alchornea triplinervia, Nectandra oppositifolia, Eugenia umbelliflora, Gomidesia schaueriana, Guapira opposita and Guatteria gomeziana are typical tree species of swampy areas of Restinga Forest in Southeastern Brazil. To elucidate effects of seasonal flooding on survival, morpho-anatomy, growth and carbon assimilation rate in these species, were evaluated g

5. Anatomical and physico-chemical characteristics of fruits of apple trees (Malus domestica Borkh.) and their relations to lenticel breakdown / Características anatômicas e físico-químicas de frutos de macieira (Malus domestica Borkh.) e sua relação com a lenticelose
The aim of this study was to describe anatomical and physico-chemical characteristics of apple fruits (Malus domestica Borkh.) Gala and Galaxy grown in three different altitudes, seeking to correlate them to the physiological disorder known as lenticelose (lenticel breakdown), characterized by the darkening of lenticels and the occurrence of brownish depress

6. Morfoanatomia de frutos e sementes em Apocynaceae / Morphoanatomy of fruits and seeds in Apoctnaceae
This paper had as objective contribute for the knowledge of Apocynaceae by a morph-anatomic survey data from fruits and seeds from species of the family. On this study, 13 species present in Brazil and distributed in three of the five families currently described, were included. Flowers, fruits and seeds in many development levels were collected, fixed and s

7. Leaf morphoanatomy and chemical composition of seven Melaleuca L. (Myrtaceae) species / Morfoanatomia foliar e composição química dos óleos essenciais de sete espécies de Melaleuca L. (Myrtaceae)
Results on the compared leaf anatomy, chemical composition and histolocalization of the essential oils of the species of Melaleuca L. growing in the municipal district of Viçosa, state of Minas Gerais - Brazil. The various Melaleuca species showed differences within their relative essential oil composition. Each of the oils analyzed revealed a dominant comp

8. Estrategias adptativas de especies arboreas tipicas de ambiente do solo hidricamente saturado : uma abordagem morfologica, bioquimica e ecofisiologica
The hydric saturation of soil leads to a rapid 02 depletion, that limits processes as germination, establishment and plant growth. The goals of the present thesis were to characterize demographic aspects, to identify the adaptative responses of seeds and plants of five tree species that enable their development on the swampy forest, and to correlate these re

9. Estudos taxonomicos do genero Maytenus Mol. emend. Mol. (celastraceae) no Brasil extra-amazonico
This work comprises the taxonomic investigation of the extra-amazonian Brazilian species of the genus Maytenus MoI. (Celastraceae). Botanical material from several herbaria were examined and some field observations were made. The genus Maytenua is mainly tropical and differenciated by its spineless branches, capsular, bivalvular fruits and seeds with a compl

10. Tolerancia a inundação e aspectos demograficos de Inga affinis Dc
Although protected by legislation since 1934 the forests along river margins, i.e. Gallery Forests, are still being cut and/or burnt in the interior of the State of São Paulo. The destriction of these forests result in irreversible environmentaI damages, such as soil erosion and silting UP the rivers and water reservoirs. The preservation and management of

11. Physical Aspects of Fruit Growth: STRESS DISTRIBUTION AROUND LENTICELS
The skin around a lenticel on a soft fruit has been modelled as a thin elastic plate with a rigid circular inclusion and applied tensile loads at the edges. A solution for the stress distribution in the skin has then been found using the linear theory of elasticity. From that solution the severity of the stress concentration and the location and form of init

12. Attachment of Escherichia coli O157:H7 to the Surfaces and Internal Structures of Apples as Detected by Confocal Scanning Laser Microscopy
Confocal scanning laser microscopy (CSLM) was used to demonstrate the attachment of Escherichia coli O157:H7 transformed with a plasmid encoding for green fluorescent protein (GFP) to the surface and within the internal structures of nonwaxed Red Delicious cv. apples. Apples at 2 or 25°C were inoculated with an E. coli O157:H7 cell suspension at 2 or 25°C.
