13. Biological aspects of Leucothyreus ambrosius Blanchard (Coleoptera, Melolonthidae, Rutelinae)
Biological aspects of Leucothyreus ambrosius Blanchard (Coleoptera, Melolonthidae, Rutelinae). Coleopterans of the family Melolonthidae comprise a large group of species that feed on different food sources, including plant roots, stems, and leaves, in addition to plant materials at different decomposition stages. Several species are found in the genus Leucot

14. Oviposition behaviour of Phlebotomus argentipes - A laboratory-based study
The breeding habitat of sandflies is a little studied and poorly understood phenomenon. More importantly, oviposition behaviour is a largely neglected aspect of sandfly biology and this knowledge gap further undermines our understanding of the biology of sandflies. Pheromones released by the eggs play an important role in identifying good sites for ovipositi

15. The use of morphological and histological features as nutritional condition indices of Pagrus pagrus larvae
Morphometrical and histological techniques were employed to characterize Pagrus pagrus larvae nutritional condition. Larvae were reared in laboratory under controlled conditions with the main objective of testing whether these methodologies allowed finding differences between larvae from different feeding treatments. Once yolk was consumed (three days after

16. Determination of larval instars in Chironomus sancticaroli (Diptera: Chironomidae) using novel head capsule structures
Determining the age composition of a population is important when conducting ecological, taxonomic and environmental assessments. Morphometric measurements of the head capsule, especially the length and width, are widely used in the identification of insect instars, but alternative ways for determining the age of insects can expand the options for the analys

17. Interaction between Musca domestica L. and its predator Muscina stabulans (Fallén) (Diptera, Muscidae): effects of prey density and food source abundance
Interaction between Musca domestica L. and its predator Muscina stabulans (Fallén) (Diptera, Muscidae): Effects of prey density and food source abundance. The objective of this work was to evaluate the influence of prey density and food source abundance on the predatory behavior of Muscina stabulans over M. domestica. Three predator/prey proportions were ev

18. Efecto del tamaño del hábitat en la supervivencia, desarrollo y crecimiento en renacuajos de Engystomops pustulosus (Anura: Leiuperidae) y Rhinella humboldti (Anura: Bufonidae)
Tadpole survival is strongly influenced by environmental factors such as temperature, oxygen, food, larval density, water volume and pond drying. Tadpoles of Engystomops pustulosus and Rhinella humboldti develop in ephemeral habitats with strong differences in their size (space and water volume) around the city of Ibagué, Colombia, and at the campus of the

19. Influência da agregação larval na história de vida de Ascia monuste orseis (Godart, 1819) (Lepidoptera, Pieridae) / Influence of larval aggregation on life-history traits of Ascia monuste orseis (Godart, 1819) (Lepidoptera, Pieridae)
In insects, the gregarious habit has been shown to improve foraging and defense against predation to both larval and adult stages. Egg clusters could also be beneficial through increased larval hatching. In this study, we tested the hypothesis that egg clusters and larval aggregations of the neotropical butterfly Ascia monuste orseis (Godart, 1819) (Pieridae

This study describes the egg membrane structures of angelfish (Pterophyllum scalare), morpho-physiological changes during angelfish embryogenesis from activation to hatching under optimal conditions (28°C; pH 6.8), the developing larvae and fry, the effect of alkaline pH on the early developmental stages of the species, the relationship between food item si

21. Diet and functional feeding groups of Chironomidae (Diptera) in the Middle Paraná River floodplain (Argentina)
The gut contents of nine genera of benthic Chironominae and Tanypodinae from the Middle Paraná River floodplain habitats (a lake and a secondary channel) were analyzed to determine their feeding patterns and functional feeding groups. Amorphous detritus, animal and vegetal tissues, and mineral materials (predominantly sand) were observed in the larval guts.

22. Reproductive behaviours and host plant selection mediated by semiochemicals in Neoleucinodes elegantalis (Lepidoptera: Crambidae) / Comportamento reprodutivo e seleção de hospedeiro mediada por semioquímicos em Neoleucinodes elegantalis (Lepidoptera: Crambidae)
The searching behaviour in insects is important to acquire food, meeting mates, oviposition sites location and protect the insects against predators. Thus, the majority of herbivorous insects select their host plant and, in particular, the plants part, which it will feed and oviposit on, using, among other tools, host plants semiochemicals. This paper aims:

23. Occurrence of Ascocotyle sp. (Digenea: Heterophyidae) in grey mullets (Osteichthyes: Mugilidae) commercialized in Iguape, Sao Paulo, Brazil / Ocorrência de Ascocotyle sp. (Digenea: Heterophyidae) em mugilídeos (Osteichthyes: Mugilidae) comercializados no município de Iguape, São Paulo, Brasil
The world spread of oriental culture and the common use of fish which is not cooked showed some problems related to them like diseases caused by parasites. There is a great incidence of Ascocotyle sp. parasites in mullets fishes, which are part of human culinary spread all over world. The aim of the present study is to estimate the presence of trematode Hete

24. Composição e sazonalidade de borboletas frugívoras no cerrado, com ênfase na relação fenológica entre Eunica bechina (Nymphalidae: Biblidinae) e sua planta hospedeira Caryocar brasiliense (Caryocaraceae) / Composition and seasonality of fruit-feeding butterflies in the cerrado savanna, with emphasis on the phenological relationship between Eunica bechina (Nymphalidae: Biblidinae) and its host plant Caryocar brasiliense (Caryocaraceae)
In many tropical environments, rainy and dry seasons alternate. The dryer season has decreased leaf availability and the nutritional quality of leaves is also low - thus it is an unfavorable period for herbivorous insects and generates seasonal oscillations in their populations. The cerrado is a neotropical seasonal biome characterized by a hot/rainy and a c
