1. Factors affecting recurrence in subacute granulomatous thyroiditis
ABSTRACT Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the factors affecting recurrence in subacute granulomatous thyroiditis (SAT). Materials and methods: A total of 137 patients with SAT were enrolled in the study; 98 (71.5%) were women and 39 (28.5%) were men. The patients received either steroid or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) for eight weeks.

2. Screening, diagnosis and management of hypothyroidism in pregnancy: Number 10 – October 2022
Key points Pregnancy places a metabolic overload on the maternal thyroid, especially in the first trimester, mainly because of the demand imposed by the conceptus. The fetal thyroid becomes functionally mature only around pregnancy week 20. Until then, the fetus depends on the transfer of maternal thyroid hormones (THs). Thyroid hormones are essential for

3. Relationship of gender and age on thyroid hormone parameters in a large Chinese population
ABSTRACT Objective This study aimed to present the impact of age and gender on thyroid hormone levels in a large Chinese population with sufficient iodine intake. Subjects and methods A total of 83643 individuals were included and were stratified by age and gender. The median, 2.5th and 97.5th of thyrotropin (TSH), free triiodothyronine (FT3), free thyro

4. OUTPATIENT ANALYTIC ASSESSMENT OF ANOREXIA NERVOSA — THE IMPORTANCE OF VENOUS BLOOD GASES

6. Propranolol inhibits myocardial infarction-induced brown adipose tissue D2 activation and maintains a low thyroid hormone state in rats
Considering the recognized role of thyroid hormones on the cardiovascular system during health and disease, we hypothesized that type 2 deiodinase (D2) activity, the main activation pathway of thyroxine (T4)-to-triiodothyronine (T3), could be an important site to modulate thyroid hormone status, which would then constitute a possible target for β-adrenergic

8. Prevalence of antithyroperoxidase antibodies in a multiethnic Brazilian population: The ELSA-Brasil Study
ABSTRACT Objective In this study, we aimed to describe the prevalence and distribution of positive antithyroperoxidase antibodies (TPOAb) according to sex, age strata, and presence of thyroid dysfunction using baseline data from the Brazilian Longitudinal Study of Adult Health (ELSA-Brasil). Materials and methods Thyroid hormone tests were obtained from

9. An early stage in T4-induced hyperthyroidism is related to systemic oxidative stress but does not influence the pentose cycle in erythrocytes and systemic inflammatory status
ABSTRACT Objective Hyperthyroidism causes many injuries in its target organs and the consequences are reflected systemically. As systemic alterations in hyperthyroidism at earlier stages have received partial attention, this study aimed to investigate systemic redox and inflammatory status at an early stage of T4-induced hyperthyroidism. Materials and met

10. Thyrotropin and free thyroxine levels and coronary artery disease: cross-sectional analysis of the Brazilian Longitudinal Study of Adult Health (ELSA-Brasil)
Data on the association between subclinical thyroid dysfunction and coronary artery disease (CAD) is scarce. We aimed to analyze the association between thyroid function and CAD using baseline data from the Brazilian Longitudinal Study of Adult Health (ELSA-Brasil). We included subjects with normal thyroid function (0.4-4.0 mIU/L, and normal free thyroxine,

12. Timing of thyroid ultrasonography in the etiological investigation of congenital hypothyroidism
ABSTRACT Objectives To describe the findings of thyroid ultrasonography (T-US), its contribution to diagnose congenital hypothyroidism (CH) and the best time to perform it. Subjects and methods Forty-four patients with CH were invited to undergo T-US and 41 accepted. Age ranged from 2 months to 45 years; 23 patients were females. All were treated with L-
