13. Contractile properties of muscles in myotonic dystrophy.
A study has been made of the contractile properties of plantarflexor and dorsiflexor muscles in 25 patients with myotonic dystrophy and in the same number of closely-matched control subjects. As anticipated, the mean torques developed during maximal voluntary contraction and during the isometric twitch were significantly reduced in the patient population, as

14. Loss of power during fatigue of human leg muscles.
1. We have investigated the loss of power seen during high-intensity exercise of human leg muscles such as might occur during sprinting. Subjects exercised the quadriceps and hamstring muscle groups using a Cybex dynamometer at an angular velocity of 90 deg s-1 once a second for 6 min. At 1 min intervals the quadriceps were electrically stimulated via the fe

15. Human quadriceps strength and fatiguability in patients with post viral fatigue.
Quadriceps isometric strength, activation and fatiguability were measured in 11 patients with symptoms of fatigue three months after glandular fever or a glandular fever-like illness. Predicted normal and lower limits of normal muscle strength were calculated from height and age. These measures and the fatigue index were compared with a group of healthy stud
