1. Combined Analytical Py-GC/MS, SEM, FTIR and 13C NMR for Investigating the Removal of Trace Metals from Aqueous Solutions by Biochar
In this study, the efficiency of biochar (BC) produced from sugarcane bagasse at different pyrolysis temperatures (300, 400, 500 and 600 ºC) for simultaneous removal of CdII, PbII, CuII, CrIII, NiII and ZnII ions from aqueous solutions was assessed. All BC were characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), 13C nu

2. New Metal-Organic Systems with a Functionalized Oxamate-Type Ligand and MnII, FeII, CuII and ZnII
Four new complexes of formula [Fe(H2pcpa)2(H2O)2] (1), {[Mn(Hpcpa)(H2O)3]•1/2H2O}n (2), {[Zn(Hpcpa)(H2O)3]•1/2H2O}n (3) and [Cu2(Hpcpa)2(bipy)2]•8H2O (4) [H3pcpa = N-(4-carboxyphenyl)oxamic acid; bipy = 2,2¢-bipyridine] have been synthesized and their structures determined by X-ray diffraction. The structure of 1 consists of mononuclear iron(II) units

3. Chemosensor Development of Cu2+ Recognition Using 1,5-Diphenylthiocarbazone: Optimization, COSMO-RS and DFT Studies
The sensitive and selective chemosensor for copper(II) ions (Cu2+) was successfully optimized using the 1,5-diphenylthiocarbazone (DPT) compound. The result showed that dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) in a 9:1 (DMSO:water) ratio at a pH of 3 was the optimum medium for DPT to act as chemosensor of Cu2+ recognition. The DPT chemosensor did not encounter any interfer

4. Potential of hydrogen (pH) differentially modulates cadmium stress response in abscisic acid-deficient sitiens tomato mutant
ABSTRACT Uptake of nutrients and cadmium (Cd) are dependent upon many factors, including plant species, ions concentration and pH. Tolerance to Cd-induced oxidative stress can be modulated by phytohormones such as abscisic acid (ABA), which induce the production of reactive oxygen species, activating proteins and enzymes involved in stress response and possi

5. Kinetic investigations and stability studies of two Bothrops L-amino acid oxidases
Abstract Background: L-amino acid oxidases isolated from snake venoms (SV-LAAOs) are enzymes that have great therapeutic potential and are currently being investigated as tools for developing new strategies to treat various diseases, including cancer and bacterial infections. The main objective of this study was to make a brief evaluation of the enzymatic s

6. Preparation and characterization of Zn(II) ion-imprinted polymer based on salicylic acrylate for recovery of Zn(II) ions
Abstract This work describes the synthesis of new ion-imprinted polymers (IIPs) for selective solid phase extraction of Zn(II) ions from aqueous samples. IIPs were synthesized by copolymerization of salicylic acrylate (SA) as a functional monomer and ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (EGDMA) as a crosslinker in the presence of 2,2’-azobisisobutyronitrile (AIB

7. EFFECT OF CONTINUOUS CRYSTALLIZER PERFORMANCE ON STRUVITE CRYSTALS PRODUCED IN REACTION CRYSTALLIZATION FROM SOLUTIONS CONTAINING PHOSPHATE(V) AND ZINC(II) IONS
Abstract Continuous reaction crystallization of struvite from aqueous solutions containing phosphate(V) (1.0 mass %) and zinc(II) ions (from 0.1 to 2.0 mg kg-1) in a continuous DT MSMPR crystallizer was investigated. The influence of pH (9 - 11) and mean residence time (900 - 3600 s) on the product characteristics and its chemical composition was tested. Str

8. Equilibrium and Out-Of-Equilibrium Investigation of Proton Exchange and CuII and ZnII Complexation on Fungal Mycelium (Trametes hirsuta)
This work presents potentiometric investigations of [mycelium/metal ion/water] complex systems and the development of a new model investigating the ion-mycelium-fluid interactions. Since pH is a major parameter in soil ecology exhibiting large fluctuations, we proposed an improved equilibrium and also out-of-equilibrium potentiometric titration method in ord

9. Optimization of Auxiliary Solvent Demulsification Microextraction for Determination of Cyanide in Environmental Water and Biological Samples by Microvolume UV-Vis Spectrophotometry
A new, simple, rapid and efficient solvent terminated-auxiliary solvent-dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction (ST-AS-DLLME) technique for determination of cyanide ions by microvolume UV-Vis spectrophotometry was developed. Effective parameters on the extraction and absorbance of cyanide were optimized using two optimization methods: fractional factorial d
