3. Effects of antidiabetics and exercise therapy on suppressors of cytokine signaling-1, suppressors of cytokine signaling-3, and insulin receptor substrate-1 molecules in diabetes and obesity
SUMMARY OBJECTIVE: Pathological destruction of insulin signaling molecules such as insulin receptor substrate, especially due to the increase in suppressors of cytokine signaling molecules, has been demonstrated in experimental diabetes. The contribution of suppressors of cytokine signaling proteins to the development of insulin resistance and the effects o

4. The relation of dermcidin with insulin resistance and inflammation in women with polycystic ovary syndrome
SUMMARY OBJECTIVE: Polycystic ovary syndrome is the most common endocrinopathy among women of reproductive age. Polycystic ovary syndrome is a metabolic disorder associated with insulin resistance and subclinical inflammation. Dermcidin, an antimicrobial peptide, involves in insulin resistance and inflammatory processes. Dermcidin suppresses the secretion o

5. InsulinAPP application protocol for the inpatient management of type 2 diabetes on a hospitalist-managed ward: a retrospective study
ABSTRACT Objective: We assessed metrics related to inpatient glycemic control using InsulinAPP, an application available for free in Brazil, on the hospitalist-managed ward of our hospital. Subjects and methods: We performed a retrospective study of patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D) admitted from November 2018 to October 2019. InsulinAPP recommends NPH a

6. The role of intermittent continuous glucose monitoring in a successful outpatient transition from insulin to glibenclamide in a patient with transient neonatal diabetes
SUMMARY Neonatal diabetes mellitus (NDM) is a monogenic form of diabetes occurring mainly in the first 6 months of life. Approximately 30% of transient NDM (TNDM) cases will have an activating mutation in the KATP channel genes ABCC8 and KCNJ11. The majority of the patients with KCNJ11 mutations who are receiving insulin treatment can be transferred to treat

7. Insulin resistance by the triglyceride-glucose index in a rural Brazilian population
ABSTRACT Objective: The aim of this study was to estimate the prevalence of insulin resistance (IR) in a rural population in Brazil, to verify its association with sociodemographic, labor, lifestyle, and health factors. Subjects and methods: This is a cross-sectional study with 790 farmers in the state of Espírito Santo/Brazil. Triglyceride-glucose (TyG)

8. Effects of Obesity on the Auditory Function of Children and Adolescents
Abstract Introduction Childhood and adolescent obesity is associated with insulin resistance, abnormal glucose metabolism, hypertension, dyslipidemia, inflammation, liver disease, and compromised vascular function. Objective We aimed to evaluate the effects of obesity on the auditory function and speech audiometry of children and adolescents. Methods Subj

9. The remission phase in adolescents and young adults with newly diagnosed type 1 diabetes mellitus: prevalence, predicting factors and glycemic control during follow-up
ABSTRACT Objective: There is little data about the remission phase in adolescents and young adults with newly diagnosed type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1D). The aims of this study were to determine the prevalence of remission and its predicting factors among adolescents and young adults with newly diagnosed T1D and to assess the association between remission and

10. Risk factors associated with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease evaluated by elastography in patients with type 2 diabetes
ABSTRACT Objective: There is controversy about the indication for nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) screening in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2D). The present study aims to contribute to NAFLD surveillance in patients with T2D, assessing the association of clinical and biological variables with hepatic stiffness and steatosis. Subjects a

11. Mediators of energy homeostasis in hyperthyroidism
ABSTRACT Objective: The aim of this study was to assess the effect of hyperthyroidism and its treatment on body weight and composition, insulin resistance, and mediators of appetite and energy homeostasis, namely ghrelin, leptin, adiponectin, and fibroblast growth factor 21 (FGF21). Subjects and methods: Thirty-five adult patients (27 female and 8 male, ag

12. What anthropometric indicators are associated with insulin resistance? Cross-sectional study on children and adolescents with diagnosed human immunodeficiency virus
ABSTRACT BACKGROUND: Studies that test associations between anthropometric indicators and insulin resistance (IR) need to provide better evidence in the context of the pediatric population (children and adolescents) with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), as anthropometric indicators present a better explanation of the distribution of body fat. OBJECTIVE:
