13. Reatividade antigênica entre Phytomonas serpens E Trypanosoma cruzi : uma análise proteômica
The genus Phytomonas comprises trypanosomatids that can parasitize a broad range of plant species and are responsible for important phytopatologies resulting in great economic losses. Phytomonas serpens, a trypanosomatid that parasitize tomato, is transmitted among plants by phytofagous insects. Previous studies in our laboratory showed that P. serpens prese

14. Alterações morfofuncionais e metabólicas no teleósteo de água doce matrinxã, Brycon cephalus (Günther, 1869) exposto ao organofosforado metil paration (Folisuper 600BR).
The xenobiotics influxes into the aquatic systems are continuous increasing in Brazil due to their use in the agriculture and to control insects in aquaculture. In the present study was evaluated if the exposure of the freshwater teleost fish matrinxã (Brycon cephalus) to sublethal concentration of the organophosphorus pesticides methylparathion (MP) induce

15. Perspectives of digestive pest control with proteinase inhibitors that mainly affect the trypsin-like activity of Anticarsia gemmatalis Hübner (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae)
The present study describes the main characteristics of the proteolytic activities of the velvetbean caterpillar, Anticarsia gemmatalis Hübner, and their sensitivity to proteinase inhibitors and activators. Midguts of last instar larvae reared on an artificial diet were homogenized in 0.15 M NaCl and centrifuged at 14,000 g for 10 min at 4ºC and the supern

16. Synthesis, degradation and functions of insect peritrophic membrane / Síntese, degradação e funções da membrana peritrófica dos insetos

Analysis of expressed genes induced by Diatraea saccharalis in sugarcane using bacterial colonies arrays.
Large-scale sequencing and the application of expressed sequence tag (EST) technology has led to the identification of hundreds of thousands of genomic sequences from various organisms. Through projects like the Sugarcane Expressed Sequence Tag (SUCEST), DNA arrays technology could be applied in monitoring gene expression. The first step of this work was to

18. Flight metabolism in Panstrongylus megistus (Hemiptera: Reduviidae): the role of carbohydrates and lipids
The metabolism of lipids and carbohydrates related to flight activity in Panstrongylus megistus was investigated. Insects were subjected to different times of flight under laboratory conditions and changes in total lipids, lipophorin density and carbohydrates were followed in the hemolymph. Lipids and glycogen were also assayed in fat body and flight muscle.

19. Papel da trealose no metabolismo de larvas de Pyrearinus termitilluminas (coleoptera: elateridae) sob estresse hídrico / The role o trehalose in the metabolism of Pyresrinus termitilluminas larvae (coleoptera: elateridae) under hidric stress
The life cycle of Pyrearinus termitilluminans (Coleoptera: Elateridae) takes place totally into the so-called luminous termite mounds located in Central Brazil, which are clearly observed during the rainy season. Light emission by the elaterid larvae acts like a trap attracting flying insects. The bioluminescence disappears in the dry months together with th

20. Cloning and Characterization of Potato Tuber Lipoxygenase cDNAs and Studies of Lipoxygenase Expression in Potato and Tomato Plants
Oxylipins are oxygenated fatty acids that are generated by plants in different contexts, and are often produced in plant tissues following imposition of external stresses such as insect wounding or pathogen infection. Injury and infection result in the release of the polyunsaturated fattty acid substrates and the enzymatic capacity for oxylipin synthesis. Th

21. Profiling the response of plants to herbivorous insects
Recent experiments with insect-damaged plants have revealed coordinated up- and down-regulation of transcripts encoding proteins with related functions, suggesting that large-scale shifts in metabolism take place.

22. Physiology of Sporeforming Bacteria Associated with Insects: Radiorespirometric Survey of Carbohydrate Metabolism In the 12 Serotypes of Bacillus thuringiensis
Radiorespirometry was used to compare the primary pathways of glucose catabolism in 18 strains of Bacillus thuringiensis representing the 12 established serotypes. Every strain utilizes the Embden-Meyerhof-Parnas pathway almost exclusively; pentose-phosphate pathway participation is minor. The Embden-Meyerhof-Parnas pathway predominates regardless of whether

23. Physiology of Sporeforming Bacteria Associated with Insects: Metabolism of Bacillus popilliae Grown in Third-Instar Popillia japonica Newman Larvae
The timing and relative participation of concurrent pathways of carbohydrate metabolism as well as the extent of terminal respiratory activity were determined by radiorespirometry with 14C substrates and by enzyme assays for vegetative and sporulating cells of the bacterium Bacillus popilliae cultured in whole, intact Popillia japonica (Japanese beetle) larv

24. Aphid biology: Expressed genes from alate Toxoptera citricida, the brown citrus aphid
The brown citrus aphid, Toxoptera citricida (Kirkaldy), is considered the primary vector of citrus tristeza virus, a severe pathogen which causes losses to citrus industries worldwide. The alate (winged) form of this aphid can readily fly long distances with the wind, thus spreading citrus tristeza virus in citrus growing regions. To better understand the bi
