Resumo Nesta nota de pesquisa, apresento parte de uma etnografia histórica que, atualmente, venho desenvolvendo com os Tupi e os Tupi Guarani das aldeias localizadas em diversos pontos do litoral e do interior de São Paulo. O que segue é uma tentativa de reconstituir o processo de formação das identidades homônimas ocorrido entre os séculos XIX e XXI.
