13. \"Donde o ouro vem\": Uma história política do reino do Monomotapa a partir das fontes portuguesas (século XVI) / \"Where the gold comes from\": a political history of the kingdom of Monomotapa from portuguese sources (sixteenth Century)

14. Variabilidade oceânica associada à variabilidade climática da vazão na bacia do rio São Francisco / Oceanic variability related to river outflow at São Francisco Hydrographic basin
This research concerned to propose a valuation about the relationship between annual oceanic behavior and river outflow at São Francisco Hydrographic Basin, in Brazil, for the period from 1968 to 2004. Linear model based on multiple regression were built for annual river outflow at Ponte da Taquara, located at High São Francisco sub-basin. Climatic indexes

16. Characterization of novel extracellular protease produced by marine bacterial isolate from the Indian Ocean
Out of the vast pool of enzymes, proteolytic enzymes from microorganisms are the most widely used in different industries such as detergent, food, peptide production etc. Several marine microorganisms are known to produce proteases with commercially desirable characteristics. We have isolated nine different cultures from marine samples of the Indian Ocean. A

17. What are and where are the bioactive terpenoids metabolites from Dictyotaceae (Phaeophyceae)
Dictyotaceae are a rich source of secondary metabolites, especially terpenes. These natural products have been studied for their bioactivity for human and for their ecological role in nature. The present work highlights de diversity of the Dictyotaceae terpenes, emphasizing their bioactivities and the biogeography of their sources. The sesquiterpenes are fou

18. Eocene-Pliocene deep sea ostracodes from ODP site 744A, Southern Indian Ocean

19. Characterization, purification and phylogenetic analysis of a cytolysin from the sea anemone Heteractis magnifica of the Indian Ocean
It is well established that sea anemones comprise a rich source of cytolytic toxins. The present study reports the isolation and characterization of a cytolysin obtained from the sea anemone Heteractis magnifica collected in the Andaman Islands of the Indian Ocean. The crude extract was screened for hemolytic activity by a blood agar plate method and a 6-mm

21. Failure to demonstrate experimental vertical transmission of the epidemic strain of Chikungunya virus in Aedes albopictus from La Réunion Island, Indian Ocean
Aedes albopictus was responsible for transmission in the first outbreak of chikungunya (CHIK) on La Réunion Island, Indian Ocean, in 2005-2006. The magnitude of the outbreak on this island, which had been free of arboviral diseases for over 30 years, as well as the efficiency of Ae. albopictus as the main vector, raises questions about the maintenance of th

22. RFLP clusters of Mycobacterium tuberculosis strains from the Indian Ocean Region: local and South Asian characteristics
This is the first study describing the genetic polymorphism of Mycobacterium tuberculosis strains in the Indian Ocean Region. Using IS6110 RFLP analysis, 475 M. tuberculosis isolates from Madagascar, Comoros, Mauritius, Mozambique and La Reunion were compared. Of the 332 IS6110 profiles found, 43 were shared by clusters containing 2-65 strains. Six clusters

23. Relation between the Antarctic Sea ice concentration and low temperatures in South America / Relação entre a concentração de gelo marinho Antártico e a temperatura mínima na América do Sul
The Antarctic Sea Ice Concentration (ASIC) is thought to be an important element in the analysis of the world climate. However, few studies have investigated its relation to other climatic elements. Thus, the aim of this study was to verify the relation between the ASIC and low temperatures in South America through two approaches. The first, regional, invest

24. Variabilidade atmosférica associada a casos extremos de precipitação na Região Sudeste do Brasil / Atmospheric variability associated to estreme precipitation events over southeast region of Brazil
The most severe climate impacts on the society occur due to climate variability and extreme precipitation events. Therefore, their study on various space and time scales are important to determine, in details, the related aspects and thus to provide information to analyze their representations in numerical forecast models. The goal of this work is to study v
