1. Inbreeding depression and genetic variability of populations for green maize production
ABSTRACT The production of green maize is considerable important for various regions of Brazil. It is vital that breeding programs of public institutions seek to meet the needs of this market sector, which has a relevant social role, mainly on small properties. The aim of this study was to estimate the inbreeding depression and the genetic components (m + a

2. Partially inbred maize lines in topcrosses and hybrid performance
ABSTRACT In plant breeding programs, the selection of potential progenies in early generations of inbreeding is an essential step. Considering that, the adoption of topcrosses helps the breeder in the selection, this study aimed to verify the potential of S2 strains for synthesis of synthetic varieties and to obtain experimental information on yield and agro

3. Inferring mating system parameters in forage peanut, Arachis pintoi, for Brazilian Amazon conditions

4. Genetic variability revealed by microsatellite markers in a germplasm collection of Jatropha curcas L. in Brazil: an important plant for biofuels
Abstract We evaluated the genetic variability of a collection of Jatropha curcas germplasm, represented by 93 accessions, using microsatellite markers. Among the 60 markers tested, five of them detected polymorphisms, with a total of 11 alleles and mean of 2.2 alleles per loci. These five markers enabled the quantification of genetic variability through esti

5. Consanguinity and Inbreeding Coefficient F in Aligarh City, India: A Cross Sectional Study
Abstract Objective: To determine the coefficient of inbreeding of consanguinity (F) and its correlates in Aligarh city, India. Material and Methods: Cross sectional household survey with a sample size of 2000 (1600 non-consanguineous and 400 consanguineous couples) using systematic random sampling. Researcher conducted the study by visiting every tenth hou

6. Species boundary and extensive hybridization and introgression in Petunia
ABSTRACT Studying the role of hybridization in the speciation of plants is one of the most thrilling areas of evolutionary biology. Hybridization in natural populations can act in opposition to divergence, contribute to adaptation through introgression or foster the emergence of new lineages via hybrid speciation. Species of the plant genus Petunia grow in o

7. Inbreeding depression in Holstein cattle in Brazil
ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to evaluate inbreeding depression in Holstein cows in Brazil, considering their 305-day milk production (MP), age of first calving (AFC), and calving interval (CI). The effects of inbreeding depression on the traits were determined using four regression models (linear, quadratic, exponential, and Michaelis-Menten) abo

8. Impact of reproductive and productive rates on levels of inbreeding and genetic gain of pigs through data simulation
ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to evaluate the impact of farrowing and mortality rates on inbreeding levels and genetic gain through data simulation. Data came from two real populations A and B, composed of Pietrain and Landrace breed pigs, respectively. To generate the simulated populations, a Fortran-language simulator was developed using the (co

9. Molecular diversity in a germplasm collection of avocado accessions from the tropical and subtropical regions of China
Abstract Avocado is an economically important crop and widely cultivated in the tropical and subtropical regions of China, whereas little is known about its genetic diversification. Twenty-six EST-SSR markers were developed based on avocado EST sequences. Molecular characterization was applied to assess the genetic relationships among different accessions.

10. Strategies to control inbreeding in a pig breeding program: a simulation study

11. Genetic variability of tambaqui broodstocks in the Brazilian state of Pará
ABSTRACT The present study evaluated the genetic variability of the broodstocks of tambaqui hatcheries in the Brazilian state of Pará. Samples were obtained from the caudal fin of 110 broodstocks from one hatchery in each of four municipalities (Santarém, Peixe-Boi, Breu-Branco, and Ulianópolis), representing all the individuals of each hatchery stock. 12.
