1. SIMULATION AND EXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATION OF POWER CONSUMPTION, GAS DISPERSION AND MASS TRANSFER COEFFICIENT IN A MULTI-PHASE STIRRED BIOREACTOR
Abstract Bio-oxidation leaching of refractory gold concentrate was carried out in a typical gas-liquid-solid three-phase stirred bioreactor. The bacteria, which adhered to solid particle surfaces and spread over the liquid phase, require sufficient oxygen and nutrient of carbon and nitrogen, and then the mass transfer rate should be considered. However, the

2. EFFECT OF DISC-BLADE INTERCEPTING ANGLE ON MIXING PERFORMANCE IN A MULTIPHASE STIRRED VESSEL
Abstract The impeller geometry is a determining factor for mixing efficiency in a stirred vessel. In this study, the effect of disc-blade intercepting angle on power number, just suspended speed and mass transfer coefficient was investigated in a multiphase system under turbulent conditions. The impellers used in this study were fabricated with 3D printing.

3. Influence of attrition variables on iron ore flotation
Abstract The presence of slimes is harmful to the flotation process: the performance and consumption of reagents are negatively affected. Traditionally, the desliming stage has been responsible for removing slimes. However, depending on the porosity of the mineral particles, desliming may not be sufficient to maximize the concentration results. An attrition

4. Analysis of Styrene Polymerization Without Surfactant and N2 Gas in Cylindrical Flask.
The conditions of chemical synthesis can be crucial for polymerization of styrene in such a way that it can be produced latex beads at nanometric range (ϕ < 400nm). In this work, it will be analyzed how the absence of N2 and surfactant will result in colloidal particles with high affinity to agglomerate forming two kinds of nanostructured assemblies: colloi

5. CFD simulation of the mixing and dispersing of floating particles in a viscous system
Abstract Based on the Gidaspow model, the distributions of velocity, turbulence intensity, and solid concentration in stirred vessels equipped with a down-pumping propeller (TXL),a six flat-blade disc turbine (Rushton), or a down-pumping six 45° pitched-blade turbine (PBTD-6) in a viscous system were simulated. The power curve of the TXL propeller and the d

6. LIQUID FLOW IN IMPELLER SWEPT REGIONS OF BAFFLED AND UNBAFFLED VESSELS WITH A TURBINE-TYPE AGITATOR
Abstract Liquid flow in the impeller swept region of vessels with a turbine-type agitator was examined for the flow path between the neighboring blades of the rotating impeller. Visualization of the flow and its measurement were done using particle tracking velocimetry with a camera rotating along with the impeller. Internal liquid flow of the impeller diffe

7. Study of mixing behavior of cstr using CFD
The continuous stirred tank reactor (CSTR) is a widely used equipment in chemical related industries. The flow behaviour of fluid inside the reactor may either change from dispersion to ideal or ideal to dispersion mixing state. It is studied using the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation software ANSYS Fluent. The mixing behaviour is predicted in t

8. Design and off-design analysis of a centrifugal compressor for natural gas
Centrifugal is the main compressor type used in process industries and pipelines. This work presents the design of a centrifugal compressor in three steps. The first step is the preliminary design that has an unidimensional treatment and is heavily based on empirical data. Then, using the quasi-ortogonals method, the flow in the meridional plane of the impel

9. Electrochemical corrosion behavior of X52 and X60 steels in carbon dioxide containing saltwater solution
X52 and X60 high strength low alloy (HSLA) steels are widely used in the construction of petroleum pipelines. This paper discusses the corrosion resistance of X52 and X60 steels in CO2 containing saltwater at pH 4.4 and 50 ºC. A circulating flow loop system inside an autoclave was used for conducting the experimental work. The rotating impeller speed was 20

10. Mixing in shear thinning fluids
In the present study, a CFD characterization of the flow generated by curved-blade impellers in a cylindrical unbaffled vessel was carried out. The tank diameter was 300 mm, with a flat bottom. The liquid height was equal to the vessel diameter. The fluids simulated have a shear thinning behavior. Analyses concern the effect of the impeller speed, the fluid

11. Estudo experimental de bombas de BCS operando com escoamento bifásico gás-líquido / Experimental investigation of two-phase gas-liquid flow performance of electrical submersible pump
The use of electrical submersible pumps (ESP) under gas-liquid flow is very common in the oil industry. At constant liquid flow rate a dramatic degradation on pump head is observed as gas flow rate increases. Natural instabilities of two-phase flow may cause the centrifugal pump to surge at rather low gas void fraction (GVF), as evidenced by a critical point

12. Análise da influência de impelidores laterais no tempo de mistura em tanques de estocagem de diesel com o uso da fluidodinâmica computacional / Analysis of the influence of side-entry mixers on the mixing time in diesel storage vessels using computational fluid dynamics
The homogenization process of hydrocarbons in large scale storage tanks equipped with side-entry impellers plays an important role in a refinery operation, since the quality of the final products depends on the performance of this process. Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) is the most viable technique to evaluate and to optimize this process, as experimenta
