2. Electroremediation of deactivated catalysts from fluidised catalytic cracking for vanadium removal - the effect of a dual cathode chamber reactor
Abstract The aim of this study was to evaluate the quantity of vanadium removed through electrokinetic remediation applied to catalyst waste used in a fluid catalytic cracking process. In excess, vanadium affects process efficiency by reducing the catalyst’s activity, causing deactivation and reducing its useful life in petroleum cracking during refining.

3. Osmolality and pH in handmade enteral diets used in domiciliary enteral nutritional therapy
Abstract Patients who need prolonged domiciliary enteral nutritional therapy may benefit from handmade diets. However, the preparation of such diets might cause insecurity with regard to their nutritional composition and physical-chemical properties. Current study analyzes the osmolality and Hydrogen-Ion concentration (pH) on handmade enteral diets. To this

4. Removal of Chromium(VI) from Industrial Effluents Through Supported Liquid Membrane Using Trioctylphosphine Oxide as a Carrier
The present study describes extraction of chromium(VI) through supported liquid membrane (SLM), Celgard 2400, which was impregnated with trioctylphosphine oxide (TOPO) dissolved in toluene. The stripping phase was comprised of diphenylcarbazide (DPC) in sulfuric acid (H2SO4) whereas the feed phase consists of potassium dichromate (K2Cr2O7) and hydrogen perox

5. Tratamento de efluente tÃxtil utilizando o processo foto-fenton / Treatment of textile effluent using photo-fenton process
The aim of this work was to study the performance of the photo-Fenton process using both the artificial UV and solar sources on the textile effluent treatments. Preliminary photo-Fenton experiments for mineralization and degradation of organic and inorganic pollutants as well as of synthetic dyes were carried out in order to assess the best experimental cond

6. Identificação dos produtos de degradação química/eletroquímica do herbicida ametrina / Identification of degration products of chemical/electrochemical herbicide ametrine
In this study the identification of degradation products ametrina (AME), pesticides used on a large scale in the sugar industry. The improvement in the treatment of environmental conditions is of paramount importance to the agricultural regions, since the contamination of soil and groundwater contamination is almost inevitable. In relation to industries prod

7. Response surface methodology for optimization of production of lovastatin by solid state fermentation
Lovastatin, an inhibitor of HMG-CoA reductase, was produced by solid state fermentation (SSF) using a strain of Aspergillus terreus UV 1718. Different solid substrates and various combinations thereof were evaluated for lovastatin production. Wheat bran supported the maximum production (1458 ± 46 µg g-1 DFM) of lovastatin. Response surface methodology (RSM

8. Potencial anticárie dos reservatórios de cálcio, fosfato e fluoreto do biofilme dental / Anticaries potential of calcium, phosphate and fluoride reservoirs of dental biofilms
Dental biofilm presents organic and inorganic reservoirs of calcium (Ca), phosphate (PI) and fluoride (F) that could act as a source of these ions to biofilm fluid during pH drops, reducing dental demineralization. Its still unknown the source responsible for the increase of such ions in biofilm fluid after pH drop, since they could be also derived from mi

The stability of the ligand diethyl phosphite was analyzed by 1H NMR in solution at pH 1.0 and 3.0 and 25°C in the presence and in the absence of the ion [RuII(H2O)(NH3)5]2+. The hydrolysis of the free diethyl phosphite in solution at pH 3.0 was not observed, while in the presence of the ion [RuII(H2O)(NH3)5]2+, at this same pH, the reaction took place w

10. Treatment of wastewater containing chlorophenols by photo-Fenton advanced oxidation process. / Tratamento de efluentes aquosos contendo clorofenóis por meio de processo oxidativo avançado foto-Fenton.
In recent years, advanced oxidation processes (AOP) have emerged as potentially powerful methods to transforming organic pollutants into harmless substances. The present work aims to study the degradation of chlorophenols (2,4-dichlorophenol and pentachlorophenol) in aqueous solution by the photo-Fenton process. The experiments were conducted in a batch recy

11. Effects of acid-base imbalance on vascular reactivity
Acid-base homeostasis maintains systemic arterial pH within a narrow range. Whereas the normal range of pH for clinical laboratories is 7.35-7.45, in vivo pH is maintained within a much narrower range. In clinical and experimental settings, blood pH can vary in response to respiratory or renal impairment. This altered pH promotes changes in vascular smooth m

12. Uso da tecnologia de troca iônica no tratamento de águas contaminadas com Nitrato do Aqüífero Dunas-Barreiras, Natal/RN-Brasil
The city of Natal comprises an area of about 170 km (65,63 squares miles). The Dunas-Barreiras Aquifer is the most important reservoir of the coastal basin of RN. It is being responsible for the water supplying of about 70% of the population, however, due to the sewage disposal system by cesspools and drains, it is presently affected in a great extent by nit
