1. Comportamento de filtros rápidos de camada profunda no tratamento de águas de abastecimento mediante o emprego de polímeros como auxiliares de filtração. / Behavior of deep bed rapid filters treating public water supplies through the use of polymers as filter aids.
The project was to evaluate the use of anionic and cationic polymers of different molecular weights as filter aids to treat drinking water treatment of surface water sources with high degree of eutrophication, particularly with regard to particulate matter removal optimization and head loss rate minimization. The experimental apparatus was composed of four p

2. Influence of Environmental Gradients on the Abundance and Distribution of Mycobacterium spp. in a Coastal Lagoon Estuary▿
Environmental mycobacteria are of increasing concern in terms of the diseases they cause in both humans and animals. Although they are considered to be ubiquitous in aquatic environments, few studies have examined their ecology, and no ecological studies of coastal marine systems have been conducted. This study uses indirect gradient analysis to illustrate t

3. Distribution of Viruses and Dissolved DNA along a Coastal Trophic Gradient in the Northern Adriatic Sea
The distribution of viral and other microbial abundances as well as the concentrations of dissolved DNA (D-DNA) along a trophic gradient in the northern Adriatic Sea were determined. Virus abundances, covering a range of 1.2 × 109 to 8.7 × 1010 liter-1 were on average 2.5-fold higher in eutrophic than in mesotrophic stations. A 2.5-fold enrichment was also
