1. Granulomatous mycosis fungoides - A diagnostic challenge
AbstractGranulomatous mycosis fungoides is a rare subtype of T-cell cutaneous lymphoma. Due to its clinical heterogenicity the diagnosis is delayed and based on histopathological and immuno-histochemical findings, sometimes requiring gene rearrangement studies for confirmation. We report the case of a patient who was submitted to several biopsies before diag

2. Texto, discurso e alteridade: heterogeneidade discursiva no chat / Text, speech and alterity: discursive heterogeneity in the "chat"

3. A comparative parasitologic study on Biomphalaria glabrata snail and C3H/He mice infected with human and murine isolates of Schistosoma mansoni derived from Sumidouro, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Experiments were carried out to analyze the biological characteristics of two sympatric isolates of Schistosoma mansoni derived from humans and murines in a low endemic transmission area (Sumidouro county, state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil). Sympatric reared-laboratory Biomphalaria glabrata and C3H/He mice were used as experimental hosts. Parameters assessed c

4. Allelic variation in Streptococcus pneumoniae autolysin (N-acetyl muramoyl-L-alanine amidase).
The lytA gene encoding the autolysin of Streptococcus pneumoniae may be a virulence determinant. Single-strand conformational polymorphism analysis demonstrated heterogenicity throughout the gene in clinical isolates and strains from the clonal serotypes 7 and 14. Sequence analysis of part of the choline-binding domain showed that in two isolates four amino

5. Characterization of Non-Type B Haemophilus influenzae Strains Isolated from Patients with Invasive Disease
Forty-one non-type b Haemophilus influenzae isolates from cases of invasive disease were characterized. By PCR capsular genotyping, 33 nonencapsulated strains, 4 type f isolates, and 4 b− strains were identified. By pulsed-field gel electrophoresis, the nonencapsulated isolates exhibited great genetic heterogenicity, whereas the type f and the b− strains

6. Use of automated sequencing of polymerase chain reaction-generated amplicons to identify three types of cholera toxin subunit B in Vibrio cholerae O1 strains.
Cholera toxin is the principal factor causing the profuse intestinal fluid secretion that is characteristic of cholera. The DNA sequences of the cholera toxin subunit B structural genes from 45 Vibrio cholerae O1 strains isolated in 29 countries over a period of 70 years were determined by automated DNA sequencing of polymerase chain reaction-generated ampli

7. Biotyping and Virulence Properties of Skin Isolates of Candida parapsilosis
The biotype and virulence of skin isolates of Candida parapsilosis were compared with blood isolates of the same fungus. Morphotype, resistotype, and electrophoretic karyotype determinations did not reveal any special cluster with a unique or dominant pathogenic feature among all of the isolates, regardless of their source. However, all cutaneous isolates ha
