1. Occurrence of Pesticides Associated to Atmospheric Aerosols: Hazard and Cancer Risk Assessments
Since the 1950s, pesticides have been used in agriculture. The increase in their consumption has been observed in recent years. In this work, it was determined the concentration of pesticides in the atmosphere of São Paulo and Piracicaba cities (sugarcane plantation site) and the hazard quotients and cancer risk caused by inhalation of these compounds were

2. IN VITRO PHYTOREMEDIATION OF PERSISTENT ORGANIC POLLUTANTS BY Helianthus annuus L. PLANTS
Plant model systems are needed to properly conduct basic laboratory studies prior to field applications of phytoremediation. In vitro plant cultures are a useful tool for such research. This study focuses on the removal and/or degradation of 24 persistent organic pollutants under in vitro conditions by Helianthus annuus L (sunflower). The main purpose of exp

3. Organochlorine pesticides in Piracicaba river basin (São Paulo/Brazil): a survey of sediment, bivalve and fish
The main objective of this paper was to evaluate the level of occurrence of the organochlorine compounds in samples of sediments, bivalves and two fish species collected in the Piracicaba River basin (São Paulo, Brazil). The isomers alpha and gamma of HCH and Heptachlor were most frequently detected in samples of sediments and specimens of bivalve and fish.

4. Substâncias tóxicas persistentes (STP) no Brasil
The present article presents an assessment of PTS in Brazil including polychlorinated biphenyls, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, benzene hexachloride, aldrin, dieldrin, endrin, p,p,-DDT, p,p,DDE, p,p,-DDD, hexachlorocyclohexanes (alpha-HCH, beta-HCH, gamma-HCH and delta-HCH), endossulfan, heptachlor and pentachlorophenol. The data presented here are relate

5. Determination of organochlorine compounds and polycyclic aromatic hidrocarbons in Lagoa de Carapicuiba- SP / Determinação de compostos organoclorados e hidrocarbonetos poliaromáticos na Lagoa de Carapicuíba - SP
In 2002, started the workmanships of widening and deepening of the gutter of the river Tietê in the metropolitan area of Sao Paulo, as a tool to prevent the periodic floods that happen in this region. A large amount of sediment, rocks and garbage have been removed from the river and this same material has been deposited in the lagoa de Carapicuíba, which s

6. DETERMINAÇÃO DE RESÍDUOS DE AGROTÓXICOS ORGANOCLORADOS EM LARANJA POR DISPERSÃO DE MATRIZ EM FASE SÓLIDA (MSPD) DISSERTAÇÃO DE MESTRADO ECOLOGIA E PRODUÇÃO SUSTENTÁVEL
This work shows the results achieved for the evaluation of organochlorine pesticides residue presence in oranges consumed in Goiânia. The method employed was based on the Matrix Solid Phase Dispersion extraction, MSPD, and analyzed by high resolution gas chromatography, GC. The studied pesticides were hexachlorobenzene, atrazine, heptachlor and its epoxide,

7. Biomagnificação do heptacloro num modelo de simulação em condições ex-situ / Biomagnification of heptacloro in a model of simulation in former-situ conditions
The studies carried out in different parts of the world about the pesticides use and the impacts that they can cause to the environment, are one of the priority actions for the agriculture development, mainly for those pesticides that are persistents in the biotic and abiotic environment, such as the heptachlor insecticide, which is still illegally used for

8. Persistent organic pollutants in two reservoirs along the Paraíba do Sul-Guandu River system, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Sediment contamination is evaluated by determining organic micropollutants (organochlorine compounds - OCs and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons - PAHs) in two important Brazilian water reservoirs. Trace levels of OCs were observed in the Santana reservoir (44.8 ng g-1 d.w. of p,p'-DDT), while in the Funil reservoir the levels were below detection level. Fort

9. Sediment toxicity of the Monjolinho river basins (São Carlos - SP): emphasis in the substances copper, aldrin and heptachlor / Toxicidade dos sedimentos da Bacia Hidrográfica do Rio Monjolinho ( São Carlos - SP): ênfase nas substâncias cobre, aldrin e heptacloro
This work aimed evaluates the Monjolinho river quality through physical, chemical, biological and ecotoxicological analysis. Samples of water and sediment were collected in July/03; October/03; January/04 and April/04 in fourteen locations. Moreover studies about survival, growth and gills morphology were performed in organisms exposed to copper, aldrin and

10. Pesticidas organoclorados em plantas medicinais e fitoterapicos
The pesticide contamination of plants as medicinal or food uses is very common, and could be due to the own cultivation in large scale, migration of neighboring cultures or the environmental contamination. Although banished of many countries, besides Brazil, due to its high toxicity and environmental persistence, the organochlorine pesticides (OCP) continue

11. Comparative biodegradation of alkyl halide insecticides by the white rot fungus, Phanerochaete chrysosporium (BKM-F-1767).
The ability of Phanerochaete chrysosporium to degrade six alkyl halide insecticides (aldrin, dieldrin, heptachlor, chlordane, lindane, and mirex) in liquid and soil-corncob matrices was compared by using 14C-labeled compounds. Of these, only [14C]lindane and [14C]chlordane underwent extensive biodegradation, as evidenced by the fact that 9.4 to 23.4% of thes

12. Effects of Pesticides on Nitrite Oxidation by Nitrobacter agilis1
The influence of pesticides on the growth of Nitrobacter agilis in aerated cultures and on the respiration of N. agilis cell suspensions and cell-free extracts was studied. Two pesticides, aldrin and simazine, were not inhibitory to growth of Nitrobacter, but five compounds [isopropyl N-(3-chlorophenyl) carbamate (CIPC), chlordane, 1,1-dichloro-2,2-bis (p-ch
