13. Modelagem da transferência de calor combinada por condução e radiação em isolantes térmicos de edificações
New insulation materials are being used in building industry to reduce electric energy consumption due to presence of HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning) systems or to improve the thermal comfort of non-conditioned environments. An insulation material used in ceilings is the glass wool. The glass wool is considered as a semitransparent material,

14. Petri Net approach for modelling system integration in intelligent buildings
In this paper, a Petri Net approach is introduced for modelling and simulation of control strategies in Intelligent Building. In this context, it is claimed that integration with other building systems can be achieved in a more systematic way considering a mechatronic approach (i.e. multidisciplinary concepts applied to the development of systems). The case

23. Fungal production of volatiles during growth on fiberglass.
Acoustic and thermal fiberglass insulation materials used in heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning systems were colonized with fungi in laboratory chambers. The mixed fungal population, principally Aspergillus versicolor, Acremonium obclavatum, and Cladosporium herbarum, produced odoriferous volatiles, including 2-ethyl hexanol, cyclohexane, and benzene

24. Carbon monoxide levels in the breath of smokers and nonsmokers: effect of domestic heating systems.
Breath and ambient (room) carbon monoxide (CO) levels were measured in a random sample of 168 adults in their own homes. The levels of breath CO in the 69 smokers ranged from 3 ppm to over 100 ppm, 74% being above 10 ppm; mean levels in the 99 nonsmokers were lower than in the smokers, 79% being below 6 ppm. In the remaining 21% of nonsmokers with higher bre
