1. Immunoadsorption therapy in refractory heart failure patients with dilated cardiomyopathy: a potential therapeutic option
SUMMARY OBJECTIVE: Removal of cardiac autoantibodies by immunoadsorption might confer clinical improvement in dilated cardiomyopathy. In this pilot study, we investigated the efficacy and safety of immunoadsorption therapy in refractory heart failure patients with dilated cardiomyopathy. METHODS: This study consisted of 9 heart failure patients with dilate

2. A rare cause of dilated cardiomyopathy: hypocalcemia
SUMMARY Dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) is characterized by systolic dysfunction and is usually idiopathic. A rare cause of reversible DCM is hypocalcemia. Calcium plays a key role in myocardial contraction. Hypocalcemia can lead to a decrease in contraction, left ventricular systolic dysfunction, and heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (EF). Hypocalce

3. Importance of epicardial adipose tissue as a predictor of heart failure with preserved ejection fraction
SUMMARY OBJECTIVE: Epicardial adipose tissue is a special form of visceral fat surrounding the heart. It is associated with cardiac and metabolic diseases. Epicardial adipose tissue is associated with risk factors for heart failure with preserved ejection fraction, such as obesity, metabolic syndrome, hypertension, and diabetes. In this study, we examined t

5. Effects of sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitors on nutritional status in heart failure with reduced ejection fraction
SUMMARY OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to evaluate the effects of sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitors on nutritional status in patients with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction. METHODS: The sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitor treatment was initiated in 153 patients with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction who were symptomatic des

6. Acute left heart failure with pulmonary edema during resection of pediatric neuroblastoma: case report
Abstract Resection of an unknown neck mass in a 6-year-old child triggered acute left-sided heart failure and pulmonary edema. The lesion was confirmed as neuroblastoma by postoperative tissue examination. Such tumors regularly synthesize and secrete catecholamines, warranting caution in advance of surgical manipulation.

7. Effectiveness of Mindfulness Meditation Programs in the Promotion of Quality of Life in Patients with Heart Failure: A Systematic Review
Abstract Background: Despite optimal medical treatment, many heart failure (HF) patients continue to show a high prevalence of symptoms, which contributes to a high morbidity and poor health-related quality of life (HRQL). Mindfulness meditation may be effective in improving the quality of life in these patients. Objective: A systematic review was conducte

11. Cardioprotective Effects of Sodium-glucose Cotransporter 2 Inhibitors Regardless of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus: A Meta-analysis
Abstract Background: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is an independent risk factor for cardiovascular impairment, increasing the rates of atherosclerotic and non-atherosclerotic events. Additionally, adverse kidney events are directly linked with T2DM and cardiovascular diseases. In this context, the sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors (SGLT2i) have d
