13. Efeito da inibição da clivagem do fator de necrose tumoral (TNF) em modelo de isquemia e reperfusão intestinal
TNF-á plays an important role in reperfusion-induced tissue injury and lethality. Here, we assessed the effect of PKF242-484 and PKF241-466, two dual inhibitors of TNF-á converting enzyme (TACE) and matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs). We examine the role of these enzymes modulating TNF-á levels in tissue and serum after ischemia and reperfusion of the super

Objectives : to fundamentate histologically the most important MRI findings in the neurotoxoplasmosis. Patients and Methods : twenty patients with AIDS and neurological signs and symptoms underwent MRI scan (1.0 and 1.5T). We utilized the presuntive clinical, radiological and therapeutic diagnostic criteria. We did MR images in differents orthogonals plans,

15. Treino em esteira com suporte parcial de peso associado à estimulação elétrica funcional melhora a marcha de hemiparéticos crônicos e efeitos da inclinação da esteira na marcha de sujeitos hemiparéticos.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of the combined use of functional electrical stimulation (FES) and treadmill training with body weight support (BWS) in walking functions and voluntary limb control in chronic hemiparetic patients. Eight hemiparetic individuals (mean age, 56.6 10.26 years) were evaluated in the present clinical trial. The

16. Aminaftona no tratamento da epistaxe
Nasal haemorrhage or nosebleed, is the most common of haemorrhages due to the intense vasculization of the nose, the fragility of the nasal mucous membrane and its vulnerability to traumas and irritant agents. The aim of this study is to report on a reduction of episodes of nosebleed in two patients with the use of amnophtone. A 34-year-old male patient and

17. Subarachnoid haemorrhage in children caused by cerebral tumour.
Subarachnoid haemorrhage in children is uncommon. In a review of 110 children with an intracranial tumour over a 20 year period there were four patients (3.6%) who presented with the typical features of a subarachnoid haemorrhage. During the same period of time there were 15 children who presented with subarachnoid haemorrhage of which 26% were secondary to

18. Orbital haemorrhage induced by labour.
A case of acute orbital haemorrhage induced by labour is reported in a woman giving birth for the eighth time. The diagnosis was confirmed by computed tomography. The haemorrhage subsided spontaneously within three weeks. The mechanism of orbital haemorrhage following certain kinds of strain is discussed.

19. Isolated angiitis of the CNS presenting as subarachnoid haemorrhage.
Isolated angiitis of the CNS (IACNS) commonly presents with recurrent ischaemic or haemorrhagic infarcts, but subarachnoid haemorrhage is rare. Three patients with IACNS and subarachnoid haemorrhage are reported. Florid granulomatous angiitis with Langhans and foreign body type giant cells was found at necropsy in a child with sudden death. In two other pati

20. Subarachnoid haemorrhage of unknown aetiology: A clinical and radiological study of 51 cases
A detailed clinical and radiological study of 51 patients presenting with a subarachnoid haemorrhage, for which no cause could be found, has been described. Although selection for full investigation has favoured the inclusion of younger and fitter patients, analysis of the information obtained suggests that haemorrhage could be due to: (a) aneurysms undergoi

21. Occult alveolar haemorrhage in bronchopulmonary Kaposi's sarcoma.
Evidence of occult alveolar haemorrhage was sought by Perls's staining of bronchoalveolar lavage fluid to detect haemosiderin laden macrophages in 63 human immunodeficiency virus positive (HIV-1) men who underwent bronchoscopy. Twenty three patients had bronchopulmonary Kaposi's sarcoma; occult alveolar haemorrhage was present in 16 of these (including two i

22. Traumatic haemorrhage into the thyroid simulating major vessel damage from deceleration injury
Lawton, G. (1974).Thorax, 29, 607-608. Traumatic haemorrhage into the thyroid simulating major vessel damage from deceleration injury. Haemorrhage into the thyroid gland is a well recognized condition but there are few cases in the literature of severe haemorrhage associated with trauma. A case is described of a patient involved in a road traffic accident wh

23. Influence of endogenous opiates and cardiac afferents on renal nerve activity during haemorrhage in conscious rabbits.
1. We investigated the effects of the opiate antagonist naloxone on changes in renal nerve activity and the renal sympathetic baroreflex during haemorrhage and whether they could be mimicked by blocking afferent input from cardiac receptors. 2. Renal nerve activity, arterial pressure and heart rate were recorded in conscious rabbits during blood loss of eith

24. A prospective study of acute cerebrovascular disease in the community: the Oxfordshire Community Stroke Project--1981-86. 2. Incidence, case fatality rates and overall outcome at one year of cerebral infarction, primary intracerebral and subarachnoid haemorrhage.
The age and sex specific incidence rates for cerebral infarction, primary intracerebral haemorrhage and subarachnoid haemorrhage in a population of approximately 105,000 are presented. Over four years 675 patients with a first-ever stroke were registered with the Oxfordshire Community Stroke Project. The pathological diagnosis was confirmed by computerised t
