1. Primary Concurrent Chemoradiation in Head and Neck Cancers withWeekly Cisplatin Chemotherapy: Analysis of Compliance, Toxicity and Survival
Abstract Introduction Concurrent chemoradiation is the standard of care in inoperable locally advanced squamous cell head and neck cancers. The most widely accepted schedule of concomitant cisplatin is 100mg/m2 given on a 3 weekly basis but the optimal regime is unknown. Objective The objective of this study is to assess the tolerability, compliance, and

2. Sunitinib treatment in patients with advanced renal cell cancer: the Brazilian National Cancer Institute (INCA) experience
ABSTRACT Purpose: The aim of this study was to assess the impact of sunitinib treatment in a non-screened group of patients with metastatic renal cell cancer (mRCC) treated by the Brazilian Unified Health System (SUS) at a single reference institution. Material and Methods: Retrospective cohort study, which evaluated patients with mRCC who received sunitin

3. Nutritional assessment as predictor of complications after hematopoietic stem cell transplantation
ABSTRACT Introduction: Nutritional support is pivotal in patients submitted to hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. Nutritional status has been associated with time of engraftment and infection rates. In order to evaluate the association between nutritional parameters and clinical outcomes after transplantation a cohort of transplant patients was retros

4. Analysis of the feasibility of early hospital discharge after autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation and the implications to nursing care
INTRODUCTION: Autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation is a conduct used to treat some hematologic diseases and to consolidate the treatment of others. In the field of nursing, the few published scientific studies on nursing care and early hospital discharge of transplant patients are deficient. Knowledge about the diseases treated using hematopo

5. Estudo comparativo do efeito das fototerapias LED e LASER de baixa intensidade no tratamento da mucosite oral em pacientes submetidos à quimioterapia / Comparative study of the effects of LASER and LED phototherapies in the treatment of oral mucositis in patients submitted to chemotherapy
Patients submitted to chemotherapy and/or head and neck radiotherapy are usually affected by oral complications, especially oral mucositis and severe pain, which demands support therapy. Although the management of such oral complications by phototherapy with LASER (Laser Phototherapy - LPT) and with LEDs has been studied, the comparison between these therapi

6. Dental attendance in bone marrow transplants: clinical and economic impact / O atendimento odontológico no transplante de medula óssea: impacto clínico e econômico
Oral mucositis is one of the main and most debilitating complications of Bone Marrow Transplants. In this therapy its incidence ranges between 75-100%. The extent and severity of Oral Mucositis are significantly correlated with the days of receiving injectable narcotics, parenteral feeding, fever, and risk of important infection, number of days of hospitaliz

7. Fatores coadjuvantes no agravamento da mucosite oral radioinduzida
Objectives: Identify risk factors related to the aggravation of radiotherapy-induced oral mucositis. Methods: The sample was made up of 33 patients with malignant head and neck tumors submitted to radiotherapy. Data were collected on age, gender, histological type of tumor, stage, location, oral hygiene habits, smoking habits, alcohol intake, general health

8. Allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation from an alternative stem cell source in Fanconi anemia patients: analysis of 47 patients from a single institution
We transplanted 47 patients with Fanconi anemia using an alternative source of hematopoietic cells. The patients were assigned to the following groups: group 1, unrelated bone marrow (N = 15); group 2, unrelated cord blood (N = 17), and group 3, related non-sibling bone marrow (N = 15). Twenty-four patients (51%) had complete engraftment, which was not influ

9. A non-randomized comparative study using different doses of acyclovir to prevent herpes simplex reactivation in patients submitted to autologous stem cell transplantation
The reactivation of Herpes Simplex virus (HSV) occurs in 70% to 80% of patients submitted to autologous stem cell transplantation (ASCT); it increases the severity of chemotherapy-induced mucositis. Therefore, the use of acyclovir in ASCT patients is considered standard practice. However, the minimum dose needed to prevent reactivation is a matter of debate.

10. Effect of glutamine on methotrexate efficacy and toxicity.
OBJECTIVE: To examine the effect of oral glutamine (GLN) on the efficacy and toxicity of methotrexate (MTX). SUMMARY BACKGROUND DATA: The use of high-dose chemotherapy regimens is limited by the severity of their toxicities. Oral GLN has been shown to decrease the gut toxicity seen with MTX treatment while enhancing its tumoricidal effect. METHODS AND RESULT
