1. Pseudomonas syringae causing bacterial canker on apple trees in Brazil
ABSTRACT In March 2016, wilt and shoot blight were observed on five-year-old apple trees (Malus domestica) cultivar Maxi Gala in a commercial orchard in São Joaquim city, state of Santa Catarina, Brazil. Isolation on culture media, biolog, biochemical, LOPAT tests, and whole genome sequencing were performed. Koch’s postulates were fulfilled on apple stems

2. Extremely low-oxygen storage: aerobic, anaerobic metabolism and overall quality of apples at two temperatures
ABSTRACT The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of extremely low-oxygen storage on the aerobic, anaerobic metabolism and overall quality maintenance of ‘Royal Gala’ and ‘Galaxy’ apples stored at two temperatures. For ‘Royal Gala’ apples, four treatments were evaluated in a two-factor scheme (2 × 2), with two storage conditions: [1

4. Colletotrichum acutatum complex isolated from apple flowers can cause bitter rot and Glomerella leaf spot
ABSTRACT The Glomerella leaf spot (GLS) and bitter rot (BR) are important apple diseases in Brazil, caused by species of Colletotrichum, which are usually related with quiescent infection. This study aimed to detect quiescent infections of Colletotrichum spp. in flowers and in unripe fruits from apple commercial orchard cultivars Eva and Gala. The pathogen w

5. Extremely low oxygen partial pressures for the storage of ‘Royal Gala’ apple
ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of storing ‘Royal Gala’ apple under extremely low oxygen partial pressures on their anaerobic metabolism, ethylene production and fruit quality after 9 months of storage plus 7 days of shelf life at 20 °C. The storage conditions tested were: 1.2 kPa O2 + 2.0 kPa CO2; 0.7 kPa O2 + 1.5 kPa CO2; 0.5

6. Postharvest quality of ‘Brookfield’ apple field-treated with naphthalene acetic acid alone or combined with other growth regulators
ABSTRACT The Gala cultivars represent about 65% of the Brazilian apple production, however, it has a short harvest period, making necessary to use technologies that anticipate or delay fruit maturation. A widely used technology is the preharvest application of growth regulators. The objective of this investigation was to evaluate the effect of preharvest app

8. SCS426 Venice: new apple cultivar with glomerella leaf spot resistance and picking time in March
Abstract SCS426 Venice was developed by hybridization between Epagri 404-Imperatriz (♀) and Epagri 406-Baronesa (♂), performed at the Epagri Experimental Station in Caçador, SC, Brazil, in 2001. It requires less winter chilling than ‘Gala’ and ‘Fuji’ traditional clones, whose fruit is picked in March. It is resistant to glomerella leaf spot.

9. Increasing the length of EM-9 interstock enhances production efficiency in Imperial Gala apples
ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to evaluate the influence of different lengths of EM-9 interstock, on the production and fruit characteristics of Imperial Gala apples more than eight years old. This experiment was conducted in a commercial orchard located in Vacaria-RS, Brazil, situated at an altitude of 955 m , during seasons 2005/06, 2007/08, 2010

10. Gala Fult: The first Uruguayan apple cultivar
Abstract Gala Fult is the first Uruguayan apple cultivar, originated by spontaneous somatic mutation of ‘Royal Gala’, identified and evaluated by nurseryman Fernando Rocca and INASE. The fruits have a complete red-blushed skin without streaks and matures more precociously than the other ‘Gala’ clones, but with the same range of edaphoclimatic adaptat

11. ‘SCS425 Luiza’: new apple cultivar with medium chilling requirement and resistant to glomerella leaf spot (colletotrichum spp.)

12. Fruit set and yield of apple trees cv. Gala treated with seaweed extract of ascophyllum nodosum and thidiazuron
