1. Comparison of long-term functional results between standard supracricoid laryngectomy and modified technique with sternohyoid muscle,

4. A closer look at the main actors of Neotropical floodplain food webs: functional classification and niche overlap of dominant benthic invertebrates in a floodplain lake of Paraná River
ABSTRACT Functional classification of animals is necessary to enhance the predictive power of food web models. However, while there is a large database for functional classification of benthic invertebrates (Functional Feeding Groups, FFG) in the temperate zone, the attribution of individual species of riverine invertebrates is still in its infancies in the

5. Assessing the performance of macroinvertebrate metrics in the Challhuaco-Ñireco System (Northern Patagonia, Argentina)
ABSTRACT Seven sites were examined in the Challhuaco-Ñireco system, located in the reserve of the Nahuel Huapi National Park, however part of the catchment is urbanized, being San Carlos de Bariloche (150,000 inhabitants) placed in the lower part of the basin. Physico-chemical variables were measured and benthic macroinvertebrates were collected during thre

6. The effect of extrusion conditions and the use of a compatibilizer in the crystallization of PBT/ABS blends
Poly(butylene terephthalate) (PBT)/ acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) terpolymer blends were prepared in a twin screw extruder and the use of methyl methacrylate-glycidyl methacrylate-ethyl acrylate (MGE) terpolymer as compatibilization additive was evaluated. The effect of different screw profiles and mixing conditions were evaluated on the crystallizat

7. Influência de um fragmento florestal sobre as comunidades de macroinvertebrados de um córrego tropical degradado
Land use changes have resulted in large environmental impacts, and in agricultural landscapes sometimes only forest fragments remain. However, riparian forest remnants can influence positively stream water quality, and serve as refuge to aquatic species sensible to deforestation. We evaluated if the presence of a riparian forest remnant influences the struct

8. Diet and functional feeding groups of Chironomidae (Diptera) in the Middle Paraná River floodplain (Argentina)
The gut contents of nine genera of benthic Chironominae and Tanypodinae from the Middle Paraná River floodplain habitats (a lake and a secondary channel) were analyzed to determine their feeding patterns and functional feeding groups. Amorphous detritus, animal and vegetal tissues, and mineral materials (predominantly sand) were observed in the larval guts.

9. Termites as Bioindicators of Habitat Quality in the Caatinga, Brazil: Is There Agreement Between Structural Habitat Variables and the Sampled Assemblages?
The composition of termite assemblages was analyzed in three caatinga sites of the Estação Ecológica do Seridó, located in the municipality of Serra Negra do Norte, in the state of Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil. These sites have been subjected to selective logging, and cleared for pasture and farming. A standardized sampling protocol for termite assemblage

10. Adsorção de corantes em turfa de origem Magalhânica / Absorption dyes om Magallanic peat
The aim of this work was to study the removal of dyes Naphthol Blue Black (NBB) and Maxilon Blue 5G (MB) in the aqueous phase by adsorption on Magellan peat. According to the peat physicochemical characterization, the carboxylic, phenolic, hydroxyl and methyl amines were identified as the main functional groups, that giving it a preferably negative charge an

11. Maximal bite force, facial morphology and sucking habits in young children with functional posterior crossbite
OBJETIVE: The maintenance of normal conditions of the masticatory function is determinant for the correct growth and development of its structures. Thus, the aims of this study were to evaluate the influence of sucking habits on the presence of crossbite and its relationship with maximal bite force, facial morphology and body variables in 67 children of both

12. The use of the point count method for bird survey in the Atlantic forest
The point count method has been widely used in tropical forest for sampling bird communities. In the present study, we investigated if data on richness and abundance acquired using the point count method are different comparing spring/summer (breeding season) and fall/winter (non-breeding season) in three types of the Brazilian Atlantic forest. Twelve sites
