25. Microstructural and Electrical Features of Yttrium Stabilised Zirconia with ZnO as Sintering Additive
Adding ZnO reduces sintering temperature of yttria stabilized zirconia. Adding up to 0.5 wt% of ZnO is possible to densify to 8 mol% yttria stabilized zirconia (TZ8Y) to 95% of relative density at 1300 °C, besides, the electrical conductivity increases about 30% at 800 °C when compared to pure TZ8Y with the same relative density and average grain size. The

26. Microwave Assisted Synthesis and Sintering of Ba0.5Sr0.5Co0.8Fe0.2O3-δ Perovskite
Ba0.5Sr0.5Co0.8Fe0.2O3-δ (BSCF) perovskite-type oxide is currently one of the most promising materials for applications in solid-oxide fuel cells (SOFCs), protonic ceramic fuel cells (PCFCs), oxygen separation membranes, and catalytic membranes for methane conversion. BSCF powder synthesis has received considerable attention and new synthesis methods have b

27. Compatibility analyses of BICUVOX.10 as a cathode in yttria-stabilized zirconia electrolytes for usage in solid oxide fuel cells
Copper-substituted bismuth vanadate has been considered a promising material for composite cathodes in SOFC. However, high reactivity of BICUVOX.10 towards the electrolytes still has been its greatest shortcoming. This paper describes reactions between BICUVOX.10 and yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) electrolytes. Secondary phases formed were evaluated by X-r

28. Nanostructured Polyelectrolytes Based on SPEEK/TiO2 for Direct Ethanol Fuel Cells (DEFCs)
Proton-conducting hybrid membranes consisting of poly(ether ether ketone) sulfonated (SPEEK) and titanium oxide (TiO2) were prepared using the sol-gel technique for application in direct ethanol fuel cells. The effect from TiO2 incorporation on membrane properties such as ethanol uptake, pervaporation and proton conductivity was investigated. The uptake and

29. Solving ethanol production problems with genetically modified yeast strains
The current world demand for bioethanol is increasing as a consequence of low fossil fuel availability and a growing number of ethanol/gasoline flex-fuel cars. In addition, countries in several parts of the world have agreed to reduce carbon dioxide emissions, and the use of ethanol as a fuel (which produces fewer pollutants than petroleum products) has been

30. The effect of Pr co-doping on the densification and electrical properties of Sr-LaAlO3
Perovskite-type materials have been investigated extensively in the attempt to discover new electrolyte materials for solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC) operating at low temperatures. These materials include LaAlO3-based perovskite, which, when adequately doped, presents high ionic conductivity. However, despite the high conductivity of doped LaAlO3, two characte

31. Parametric study of hydrogen production from ethanol steam reforming in a membrane microreactor
Microreactors are miniaturized chemical reaction systems, which contain reaction channels with characteristic dimensions in the range of 10-500 µm. One possible application for microreactors is the conversion of ethanol to hydrogen used in fuel cells to generate electricity. In this paper a rigorous isothermal, steady-state two-dimensional model was develop

32. Castor oil and commercial thermoplastic polyurethane membranes modified with polyaniline: a comparative study
The study of conducting polymeric membranes is decisive in some areas, as in fuel cells and electrodialysis. This work aims the study of membranes using conventional and conductive polymers blends. Two types of polyurethane were used as conventional polymers, commercial thermoplastic polyurethane and polyurethane synthesized from castor oil and 4-4-dicyclohe

33. Yttria and ceria doped zirconia thin films grown by pulsed laser deposition
The Yttria stabilized Zirconia (YSZ) is a standard electrolyte for solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs), which are potential candidates for next generation portable and mobile power sources. YSZ electrolyte thin films having a cubic single phase allow reducing the SOFC operating temperature without diminishing the electrochemical power density. Films of 8 mol% Ytt
