1. Proposal of a failure envelope for artificially cemented sand
Abstract Soils are particulate materials, which often stand out for their low shear strength. In most cases, this aspect justifies adapting the geotechnical project for this characteristic, which can be even more problematic in the case of soft sands, since it often occurs in superficial layers in various parts of the metropolitan region of Fortaleza. Theref

2. Braden scale has low reliability in different patients under care in intensive care unit
SUMMARY OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to assess the inter-reliability of the Braden scale and its subscales for different patients assisted in the intensive care unit. We hypothesized that the Braden scale has low reliability in different populations. METHODS: This reliability study involved the Braden scale in intensive care unit of a hospital. A t

3. Discrete element modeling of non-spherical particles using a spherical shape
Abstract Real non-spherical particles can be modeled using the Discrete Element Method (DEM) with sphere clusters, superquadrics, or polyhedral particles. However, in applications involving a considerable number of particles, the analysis can become impracticable. The goal of this study is to demonstrate how well spherical particles can reproduce the flow of

4. DESIGN OF ELECTRONIC CONTROL GOVERNOR FOR A SINGLE CYLINDER GASOLINE ENGINE BASED ON AN INTELLIGENT SENSING ALGORITHM
ABSTRACT At present, most large machinery and vehicle engines are electronically controlled but their electronic control systems are too expensive to be popularised and applied in small gasoline engines with relatively low prices. Therefore, small gasoline engines still use mechanical speed regulators. Mechanical speed regulators not only have the defects of

5. INFLUENCE OF ALBUMIN ON GUAVA PULP POWDER OBTAINED BY FOAM-MAT DRYING
ABSTRACT Guava is a fruit that stands out for its aroma, intense flavor, vitamins, and minerals. Its availability as a powdered food enhances its commercial applications. This study aimed to evaluate mathematical models for adsorption isotherms and determine the properties and flowability of guava pulp powder obtained by foam-mat drying. The models of GAB, B

6. Stabilization of sandy soil with high content of asphalt emulsion
Abstract The purpose of this article is to evaluate the shear strength parameters of mixtures of sandy soil with high asphalt emulsion contents for their use in geotechnical structures, such as zoned earth dams, embankments, etc. The methodology adopted consisted of: collecting and characterizing samples of sandy soil to be laboratory tested; compacting the

7. THE PERFORMANCE OF EXPLICIT FORMULAS FOR DETERMINING THE DARCY-WEISBACH FRICTION FACTOR
ABSTRACT The Darcy-Weisbach equation is the most recommended equation for determining the pressure loss in pressurized pipes because of its wide applicability. However, one of the largest obstacles to implementing this equation is the friction factor (f) calculation. This factor can be precisely determined using the Colebrook equation, which is implicit. 8. New Proposal to Calculate the Friction in Sheet Metal Forming Through Bending Under Tension Test
There are 6 different types of equations that have been formulated to measure friction through the bending under tension test, however, there is no work to show whether these calculations actually represent what is happening in a sheet metal stamping process. This paper aims to make a direct comparison between the bending under tension test and the sheet met

9. Effects of Geometrical Feature on Microstructures and Mechanical Properties of Refill Friction Stir Spot Welding 6061 Aluminum Alloy
Refill friction stir spot welding (refill FSSW) is a solid state joining technology developed and patented by Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht. Refill FSSW is a welding process suitable for spot joining lightweight materials in similar and dissimilar joint configuration. The result is a spot welded in lap configuration with minimal material loss and a flat surfa

10. Towards Qualification of Friction Stir Welding to AA5083-O and AA5052-O Aluminum Alloys
Friction Stir Welding (FSW) is an excellent alternative for joining dissimilar and similar materials in comparison to conventional welding processes. In this sense, this work aims at qualifying FSW to similar AA5083-O and AA5052-O aluminum alloys, with 6.35 mm thickness, in a CNC machining center. Therefore, four welding experiments were undertaken. At first

11. Hardening and Dynamic Recovery During Hot Compression Test of Copper Simulated as Viscoplastic Material
The Norton-Bailey equation was used to simulate by finite elements the hardening and dynamic recovery of copper during the hot compression tests. The constants of Norton-Bailey equation were determined from the Voce-Kocks model. The simulation assumes a Mortar Contact with Coulomb friction and axial symmetry. Numerical results were compared with experiments.

12. Mechanical behavior of PVD coatings deposited on ADI
ABSTRACT In this work, the mechanical behavior of the coated ADI system is studied. For this purpose, single layer Ti and bilayer Ti/TiN and TiAl/TiAlN coatings, with different thicknesses, were deposited by the PVD technique of cathodic arc deposition on high strength ADI substrates using industrial and experimental devices. The characterization of the coat
